 Doesn't seem to work. Installation fails right near the end.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04

Are you playing the GOG version or the original Retail version?
It IS supported by PlayOnLinux but that doesn't guarantee it will work.

Try searching for Medal of Honor and installing with the provided steps.
If it still doesn't install, installing "non-supported software" and creating your own virtual drive.
I usually install these libraries by default:

core fonts
d3dx9
directx9
netframework 1.1
netframework 2.0
netframework 3.0
vcrun2005

Those should be enough to get the game installed and running
