Hi everybody !

Many of you sent me a mail to help translating the website. That is why today, I built a file that contains all translations of the website.
If you want to help us, you can download this file to translate POL website in your language.

But please know that, even if you help translate the website in your tongue, we can not guarantee to open a forum section and a news section. In fact, we also need moderators and newsers for that.

But at least, the member would be able to understand the home page, the download page, the main links, the member list, private messages, etc...

Hi everybody !

PlayOnLinux 3.7.3 is now available !

What's new for the users ?

- PlayOnLinux automatically extract icons during the installation process to use them in the main menu.
- A bug corrected preventing user from changing a program icon
- Few translations were corrected
- Definitive correction (we hope) of $PROGRAMFILES variable problem. Script are being rewritten.
- PlayOnLinux is now available in Greek (Thank you kapcom01)

A little bit more technical for the scriptors ...

- POL_LoadVar_PROGRAMFILES was created to assign the name of Program Files directory to $PROGRAMFILES variable. In few case, when the directory was called "Program Files", the following commande returned %ProgramFiles% instead of the real name, and it was the cause of many bugs in all the scrpts.

- POL_LoadVar_PROGRAMFILES is automatically called on prefix creating. There is no need to use it in the scripts, we just need to erase old lines that cause bugs. To be sure that the scripts will be compatible with the old version, we started to replace

With version 2.0.0 and onward we bundle our own Wine build and many tools and libraries that Wine depends upon. To this day, PlayOnLinux has provided you with more than a hundred scripts.
Thanks to PlayOnLinux quite a few people have made their final step towards Linux. Maybe you are among those recent addition to the community.
As you know, Playonlinux allows you to use applications made for windows on the GNU/Linux operating system of your choice for free.

Perhaps you don't know that behind PlayOnLinux are dozens of people giving away their time for free to make sure there is always more material available.

PlayOnLinux is also:
- A team of administrators managing the site, the forum, the script validation and PlayOnLinux itself.
- A team of scriptors writing new scripts every day to enlarge the list of those windows applications you can now use on your GNU/Linux operating systems.

MulX

For everything he has done for PlayOnLinux since the beginning of the project, MulX just got the administrator status. This status is mostly symbolic because he already had administrator privileges for quite some time.
MulX is the one to be contacted if there is a problem and I'm not available, since he has almost the same access rights than me.

PlayOnLinux 3.7, the latest version of PlayOnLinux is now available.

Changes

The changes brought by PlayOnLinux 3.7 are:
- Right-clicking directly on the applications is now possible.
- The ability to change an application's icon.
- The ability to access very quicly to the installation directory of an application.
- The ability to stop all the applications run by PlayOnLinux at once.
- A new option: "playonlinux --debug <Application>" allows us to help you by providing more informations so that we can understand why <Application> doesn't work for you.
- A much improved manual installation procedure (e.g. you can choose the version of Wine to be used).

Scripts for Steam games

Hello everyone!

Those of you who wander the forum may have noticed topics about several scripts for Steam games. The scripts were in test stage for a long time but are now ready for daily use. These scripts configure the following games:

- Half-Life 2
- Half-Life 2: Episode 1
- Half-Life 2: Episode 2
- Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
- Portal
- Team Fortress 2
- Counter Strike: Source

This last script is only an update of the previously available script for Counter Strike : Source with, in addition, a few bug fixes.
Compared to a standard installation, these Steam scripts bring an even easier installation as well as better performances, because we did select the best suited version of Wine for each game.

I want to thank in particular Obi1-46 for his graphic work (that you can see in the installers) as well as BlondVador, Panzer, Obi1-46 (one more time) and everybody else for their very exhaustive tests that allowed me to improve the scripts, and NSLW for pointing out a careless mistake of mine.

From now on, you will find these scripts directly in PlayOnLinux's "Install" menu.

I am glad to announce you that the issue we encountered with wine version server is fixed. All wine version will be available in few time (including the last wine package 1.1.31).

Sorry for the weekly downtime.

To answer the many questions, assumptions, questioning.

Yes the server that hosts the Wine versions for PlayOnLinux and DirectX (and some other files) is offline and you are getting this message "Wine packages website is unavailable".

We are currently looking for a solution to this problem and hope to return as soon as possible to normal.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

WineVersion (some information)

Following a change of environment building packages for Wine WineVersion, this versions have been updated:
- Wine 1.1.27
- Wine 1.1.28
- Wine 1.1.29

This update concerns the support of the GSM library, which is an audio compressor.
Unless you want to use this functionality in these versions of Wine, you do not need to re-install.

Wine version 1.1.29 (and probably the following) (will) uses the external library (libmpg123) to decode mp3 files (from changelog and configure script).
This library is not currently available in the build environment used.
Support decoding of mp3 files will probably may no longer work.
The installation of this library involves a loss of compatibility with distributions released before 2008 (Mandriva 2008.0 for example). Currently all distributions out since 2006 are compatible.

If the lack of MP3 support is a problem, unsupport certain distribution is also a problem. So I choose the support a maximum of distribution and leaves mp3 not supported
If he really need the mp3, there will be 2 packages, one with mp3 support but limited in distribution and package without supporting mp3 but working on more distribution

PLEASE: Run this program in console and paste the output here with the entire name of your distribution (only if nobody have post for your distribution, or if it's not the same output).

Hello everyone !!

A little news to announce that PlayOnLinux 3.6 is out.

- The novelty this time is the integration of winetricks (which has been modified for PlayOnLinux) by use of the "tricks" command.
This way script writers will be able to use it easily.

I also took this opportunity to clean out the code by deleting useless files and corrected minor bugs.

It's official now, PlayOnLinux will be available directly in the Ubuntu distribution soon!

Indeed, you will find PlayOnLinux 3.5 in Ubuntu's "universe" repository for the next release, Karmic Koala, in October.

A new game available in Playonlinux: Drakensang
