I also have this problem. I'm using Linux Mint 7 (Gloria), and Office Home and Student 2007. For some reason that product key field just won't get focus. I found a post about this problem on this forum from 2009, but there's no resolution (http://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-2747-Cant_input_product_key_for_MS_Office_2007.html).

Does anyone know if you can activate the software some other way?

Success!

In my search for answers, I saw a suggestion that "richedit30" might help. There is an article I was using for reference which shows installing Office 07 using Wine and CrossOver, and it explains how to upgrade richedit30: http://www.wine-reviews.net/microsoft/running-ms-office-2003-under-linux-with-wine-0952.html

My computer has both Wine and PlayOnLinux (which is an extension of Wine). So PlayOnLinux is its own Wine installation and I attempted to do the richedit30 change to it based on the relevant section of that article. I couldn't figure out how to apply the change directly, but I was able to apply it to my wine install and then copy-paste the new DLLs to my PlayOnLinux install, and then the Product Key dialogue worked!

If you have Wine as well as PlayOnLinux, here's what you do:
- Go to your Wine's system32 directory (~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32) and rename richedit20.dll and richedit32.dll so that they're backed up.
- Download RichEdit30.exe (I got it from here http://www.cxtra.net/site4/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=74) and save it to that same system32 directory.
- Run "wine richedit30.exe" and button through the dialogue.
- There should now be two new richedit20.dll and richedit32.dll files there.
- Copy those two files to your PlayOnLinux system32 directory for Office 2007 (should be at ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Office2007/drive_c/windows/system32)
- Run one of the Office programs and you should now be able to enter the Product Key!

That's what worked for me. Maybe someone around here knows how to do the richedit30 upgrade on PlayOnLinux directly rather than copy-pasting from Wine. Any input would be helpful.
Cheers!

This worked great for me! Thanks so much I need Excel for work and LibreCalc just isn't cutting it. This was easy but when you run wine richedit30.exe in the terminal it created two files called "riched20.dll" and "riched32.dll". Small difference I might be wrong, I wasn't paying close attention, but either way those are what I copied to ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Office2007/drive_c/windows/system32 and it worked. Thanks again.

It works for me too !, thanks a lot. I am running Office 2010 and Visio 2010 on openSUSE + playonlinux. Only little difference is on DLL's name : riched20 and riched32 instead of richedit20 and richedit32. I copied new created DLLs to ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Office2010/drive_c/windows/system32 and ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Visio2010/drive_c/windows/system32. Thanks !
