hi im trying to install age of empires III and it wont install. i already had a problem with it finding the first disc because the script is case sensitive so i changed it. it read the disc but immediately after that it asked for the second disc and then the third. in the terminal it came up with this error:

cp: cannot copy a directory, `AOE3', into itself, `/home/jazz/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/AOE3/drive_c/windows/temp/AOE3/AOE3'

Indeed the first CD check was case sensitive and it was wrong but now it's corrected

You probably used CD mounted in place with space character in its path. It's also fixed now.

ok i installed age of empires 3 successfully, although im not sure if the mp3 codecs are installed, and it wont start, it says in the scripts description that original age3.exe wont work, wat do i use then a cd-crack?

Why aren't you sure?
The codecs are installed if there is l3codecx.ax in
~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/AOE3/drive_c/windows/system32
and if this file is registered. You will notice that because in main menu of AOE III music should be played.

Game patched with official patch (it's 1.13 now) from developer also has got copy protection and game won't start.

Hi there, sorry if this seems quite noobish.

As opposed to starting a thread of my own for the same problem I decided to post here, I hope this is ok.

I can't seem to find where the typo for the case sensative bit of the script is. I'm having a difficult time installing due to the disk not being able to be found.

Any help is appreciated =)

I have problems intalling aoe3, the script hang copying the 3rd CD, so i run i console and get this at the moment it hangs.

/home/lucchox/.PlayOnLinux/install: line 105: cd: /home/lucchox/.winetrickscache: No existe el fichero ó directorio

in english " the folder doesnt exist"

so? any idea?

Indeed that was a problem for peoples that hasn't used winetricks earlier, but it's now corrected. Thanks for your report

ok so i update and with the new script the problem is solved?

i did it, and other problem appear but this time is in play on linux in general, i cant install anything, if i run in console i get :
"Conecting to mulx.playonlinux.com|91.121.54.147|:80..."
and nothing happen, i ping mulx.playonlinux.com and i get no answer.
So i will have to wait to try the install again, when i can do it i reply to let you know if it works.

thanks, now i can install age3 but in the end of the script it let me install the 1.13 patch, i put yes and choose the language (english), the patch was downloaded and start the installation, extract and then an error message " There is a problem with your game installation. You may need to reinstall the game to fix it"
What means that? i need to reinstall, i think the the patch was not succesfully installed, so?

Ok i know why the patch does not work, because a have not the game installed, i browse the wineprefix "AOE3" and i not found the game folder, and all the wine prefix "AOE3" have 9.3 mb , so that means that i have not the game there. So i elimenate the AOE3 wineprefix with the playonlinux delete function and installed again but running payonlinux on console and i get this:]

Here is the problem:
"wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\instalar.exe": Module not found"
it want to install the game with "instalar.exe" in c:\windows\system32\ but my exe is "setup.exe" in c:\windows\temp\AOE3\
So the script is wrong? Where is located the script? i want to hack it to try to solve the
problem.

The script is here. Please write language version of AOE III you're using. I do know that Spanish version has instalar.exe, and the script should work correctly for that version as i corrected that a week ago.

OK, the game is English but the system is set to spanish, so when its do:

Console:

wine "instalar.exe"

wine "setup.exe"

the script do "instalar.exe" when its "setup.exe" the correct file. Maybe the script have to check other thing and not the system language. Anyway if you correct this would be wonderful, but when i ask "Where is located the script?" i means in my system, i cant find thw file to write setup.exe instead instalar.exe and correct the error localy.

The script isn't in your system, it has to be downloaded from internet every time you want to use it. You can copy the content of the script, i gave you, change it and then run it by Run a non-official script

Ok, but how i do that? i create a file, then i cut and paste the lines of your script on this file, then save with the name of "age3.pol" and go to playonlinux, go to "install", then "Install a .pol package or an unsopported application", then i choose "Insatall a .pol package" , then browse to "age3.pol" and a warning message say "The file is not a valid Playonlinux package"
So, what i need to do to run this script?

You do this by Tools->Run a non-official script from POL's menus and not by Install
BTW. Does the official script still don't work for you? I corrected it so it should be ok now for English version of AOE III on Spanish Linux
