Several things to think about:
1. DRM - I heard that Blizzard requires you to be online in order to play Diablo III. I have seen several games in PlayOnLinux have DRM problems and would not run.
2. There is a LOT of DirectX errors in that debug log
3. Make sure your video card drivers are installed and up-to-date.
4. What version of Wine are you using?

It may be a good idea to install other versions of DirectX packages and even trying another version of Wine. Diablo III is a very new game so you never know what you are going to get with Wine.

Here are the specs of someone who ran it perfectly:
Linux 14 Nadia (64-bit) w/ Cinnamon
Linux Kernel 3.5.0-25 generic
NVIDIA Corp. GT215
Wine 1.5.26

There are a lot of notes, information and comments here: WineHQ

Read the Q&A... I found this:

Q: I'm using video card equipped with ATI/AMD GPU/APU and when I start up the game all I've got is a "black screen" or a "black window".
A: Most likely you had hit a bug in the video card driver. Your best bet would be try to update it to the most recent version. In case you are already using latest driver release (or in case it's hard for you to update video card driver for some reason) you might have some luck workarounding this problem by applying a small registry change to your prefix. What you would want to do is to set "AlwaysOffscreen" key to "enabled" under "HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D". You could easily do it with recent enough winetricks by executing "winetricks ao=enabled" for your Diablo III Wine prefix.

Hi,

There is a fix for ATI GPU in Configure->Install packages called ATI_Black-Screen_Fix. It activate this particular wine option in booman's answer but event with this option activated it may still not work.

The problem come from FGLRX driver and until ATI/AMD fix the issue with driver update, we can't do anything about it.

That really sucks!
Who knows how long it will take for AMD to update their Linux drivers???

mmh i know several people with ati/amd cards and they can play diablo 3 under linux so its not an driver related problem i think?!

i tryd now Wine 1.5.26 + 1.5.5 and fglrx 13.1. and 12.10 in any combos

is there anything other what i could try?
otherwise i have to sell my card for an nvidia one?! :-(

Yeah, but do they have the same exact card? Same linux kernel? Same drivers? All of that matters, unfortunately. lol

I cant tell you to do that, but I know that I only mess with Nvidia cards. Maybe you have a buddy with an Nvidia card that you can test with before making the leap to another card?

Good point!
I am very satisfied with my Nvidia video card and running games in Linux.
They have done an amazing job optimizing the driver and supporting DirectX & OpenGL.
If you have the money, you won't regret purchasing an Nvidia card!
Use the AMD in an spare computer...
