Howdy folks,

I am running STO on a new MacBook Pro, but with 2.3 staging I get the DirectX not supported pop up and I dont think the registry key hack is working (I am pretty sure I am doing it right anyways), when I switch to 2.18 staging it launches and I can get in game, but the floor and my character (except for hair) doesnt load in...

Anyone got a solution?

I started it up again after having problems with 2.12fix something and in 32bit Or similar. And then changed it to 2.18 staging and it has worked every since.

Later version are working once you get it in the game. I don't know if I needed the 2.12fix. I may have just not waited long enough for it to start. But it's working consistantly with later versions now for me.

Graphics problems are still a thing though. No change at all in this departments. But It's playable for me with the level of graphics missing. It's mostly superficial stuff like trees or boxes and not the ground or anything too serious.

I should say I had problems starting it and I thinkg I used 2.12fix to get it started again. I don't remember how though. I then changed to other versions including 2.18staging and it just works. I worded this wrong above.

I'm actually getting quite a bit of stuttering and a computer lock up last night. Not sure if it's the version or the new drivers or what. Anyone else getting this?

Ok, I am able to get STO to run using POM, but the graphics do not render well making it difficult to move around and play the game. I will keep playing with the graphics settings to see if anything improves this. My character shows up at first but then dissapears as the final layers are added. I've read some discussion that Shadows are an issue, but turning Shadows on or off doesn't seem to fix this.

Here are the key settings I found that allowed the game to load and play on my MacBookPro Late 2016 13" (OSx 10.12.6):

Wine 2.3-staging (see note below on 2.12-staging)

Windows 7 or 10 - seemed to run the same.

Direct3D registry key fix -> DWORD = 30002 (hex)

Configure Wine -> Staging: Deselect "Hide Wine Version" (selecting this will cause a "system configuration error" dialogue when you first run the game)

Configure Wine -> Staging: Enable CSMT (not sure if this helps but it doesn't seem to hurt either)

Running in either Safe mode or Normal mode seems fine. Running in Maximized Window works well.

I can get the game to fully open and run using Wine 2.12-staging but the graphics look even worse than using 2.3-staging, so I'd recommend 2.3-staging. Have not tested other Wine versions.

Any ideas on stratgies to fix the graphics issue?

That's bizzare, since Ihad graphical glitches in 2.3-staging but neither in 2.12-staging nor 2.13-staging

@SToGamer Does it work better for you in 2.13-staging ?

I thought it would be useful to summarize all the things I needed to change/set in one post at the top so it would be easy for others to find, rather than having to go through numerous prior threads below as I had to do to figure out how to make it work. Apologies if you found this annoying.

I just tested it using Wine 2.13-staging and the graphics are about as bas as in 2.12-staging. So far 2.3-staging works best for me, but the graphics are still a big issue.

Yea, I can't get the graphics problems to go away. I still have missing textures in some places like outside the romulan embassy and my shirt on my character for certain clothing and other random things. How did you get rid of the graphics problems?

Any updates on a solution? 2.3-staging seems to work best given that I can at least see the ship texture (then patchy when Dialogs appear) and 2.12 and 2.13 the graphics issues are even worse

Running on MacOS Sierra and using 2.3 Staging with Windows 10 emulation seemed to help with the textures of my ships. The ships now basically look good in space battles. Sometimes near planets in the sector travel they will look a little patchy.

Sunday 24 September 2017 at 8:25 -
I cannot get it working with Wine 2.3 staging either, try 2.15 (not staging) this works but the view is not pretty. Wine development will need more improvements made before the game is both playable and aesthetic.

I still can't get other versions on Wine to install, but the game does load to the character creation screen (in Safe Mode, windowed). I can select a race and class, but when I click Next the game crashes. Have tried this multiple times with the same result. Anyone else having this issue?

As I can't seem to install other Wive versions I'm just using "star_trek_online_setup.exe" as the Wine version.

Thanks.

Anonymous
Tuesday 25 July 2017 at 17:23 -
Ok, I can try that. I did get it to run by doing a manual install of Wine (easy instructions here: https://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/), changing to Windows 7 OS, and adding the registry key for DirectX. I installed wine 2.13-staging and ran in safe mode.
The game loads past the character creation screen but the graphics don't render properly. I can barely see my character, or most of the environment.
Will try again using wine 2.3-staging and report back.

Hi, I'm totally new to this and would appreciate some help

I've been able to get it installed, but that required changing it to the right installation file name.

Then I got the DirectX error but got around that by adding the registry key.

I get just past the Cryptip load screen and then it says at the bottom something about a Tessalation error, and crashes.

I've tried installing the Vine 2.3-staging but the installation never seems to complete and I never have it as an option.

What else should I try?

Thanks!

Try wine 2.12-staging, and first launch the game in Safe Mode (in options tab), that will launch the game at the lowest setting possible. If it works you can increase graphics options (until it crashes).

STOGamer and I are aware of a specific macOS bug, but as a linux user I can't report it at Wine ;)

Indeed you can download latest wine by yourself, go to https://www.playonlinux.com/wine/binaries/darwin-x86/ and search for 2.12-staging, take the .pol, rename it .tar.bz2, extract it . inside there is a directory with the name of the wine version. You place it in (for linux here, I don't know for max ;)) .Playonlinux/wine/linux-x86/ (for you it is darwin-x86)

Ok, thanks. I have been looking and looking and cannot find where the folder is to put the wine 2.12-staging folder in. I have not encountered something so confusing as this in a long time. Why doesn't the wine version just install properly from POM?

That's odd. You shouldn't have to do it manually. Disable any proxies, firewalls, and av software that you have running and see if that will allow it to download.

Disabled my firewall and AV but still no go (should have thought of that earlier). It downloads the Win version file, extracts it, and then nothing, and the version isn't listed as installed. I have zero "Installed Wine versions" showing.

It should work, however you should re install the game with wine 2.13-staging. The registery key isn't needed in this version

Ps : you can verify(linux) that your card support OpenGL 3.x with

glxinfo | grep 'core'

i got it working, here the solution, navigate to StarTrekOnline/drive_c/users/Public/Games/Cryptic\ Studios/Star\ Trek\ Online/Live/cache and delete all files in that folder, then dont forget to check in POM> configure > wine tab > "wine counfigure" then go to staging tab in the popupwindow, and check if "Hide Wine version from applications" is enabled, if not, enable it, then start the STO launcher, and in the options menu of the launcher start the game first in safe mode, and use minimum settings in the next window from the game, then it might take a while the first time, be patient, it took me around 30mins the first time after that it was normal. Good Luck

In a fresh install with 2.12-staging (CSMT enabled), everything seems to work (no more texture glitches).

Normally you shouldn't need this anymore, but if the program complains about unsupported DirectX version, verify you hhave minimum OpenGL 3.x with :

glxinfo | grep 'core'

and set this register key :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Wine Direct3D MaxVersionGL to x000y where x and y correspond to your OpenGl version (x.y)

I have a problem. This is my first time trying to use PlayOnMac, and I got it specifically for this game. The launcher won't allow me to run the game due to an unsupported DirectX version.

I apparently need a video card that can support DirectX Hardware Feature Level 10. I don't know what components I need to install to Wine to make it work, or if there are any workarounds.

I'm attempting to play on a MacBook Pro Late 2014. I have an  NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB and  Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB as my graphics cards built in. What can I do?

Check through the posts. There is a registry hack you need to perform to make it work.
Anonymous
Thursday 6 July 2017 at 18:29 -
Let me rephrase that....the hack will get you past the unsupported card warning. You'll probably then be able to get into the game, but there will be several graphical issues. Again, check the posts to see what we're dealing with...

I'm running Sierra on a late 2012 IMac. I can open the game and play some. Graphics not rendering properly is still an issue. Is your configuration correct? Make sure you are running it with Wine 2.3 staging. (Configure>General Tab) Windows choice should be Windows 7 or better. (Configure>Wine Tab> Configure Wine>Windows Version)
Anonymous
Monday 10 July 2017 at 5:40 -

Anonymous
Monday 10 July 2017 at 19:57 -
My set-up often takes between 30 seconds and 2 minutes to get to the Cryptic screen after I hit Engage. Did you try to force verify the game files? At the log in screen click Options, check Force Verify and click Save. If that doesn't do you any good, you may want to reinstall STO from scratch which includes removing the virtual drive from POM. I've run in to this in the past and I think that was the ultimate resolution.

Just had a problem where the install or something updated itself. It now does not let me click on the engage or other buttons. I don't know if anyone else will have this issue. But I found a workaround by tabbing through the items in the window until getting to engage or other desired windows. This is the launcher so another option may be to use the client directly. This just happend a few minutes ago and was not an issue before this. I have no idea what updated or why.

This was potentially caused by a remaining instance of game client being open in the process tree while opening a new client even though the old one was crashed or closed. I can resolve it most of if not all of the time by closing the process for game client and I can click on interface buttons again in the launcher.

Hello all, I've followed all the points, including th HKEY to get the game to run. It runs great on my Mac Mini 2012, apparently even smooth at higher graphics levels (though no action yet and I will likely have to reduce when I get there) ;) But first off, amazing work here!

However... I am basically seeing no surfaces at all. No planet surfaces but weird glowing orbs in space instead, just empty wireframes of the starships and the bridge, characters are all glowing silhouettes with eyebrows, no walls, floors... no me!

When I change the graphics levels I get sporadic changes. E.g. I was able to get my starship to appear! But planets, floors, and characters are still funky. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this? Would be happy about any suggestions! Cheers!

Thursday 15 June 2017 at 23:40 -
1.st : Use Wine 2.3 Stage, 2. disable in graphics "shadows" (NO) and the the option below shadows from 6 to 1. Some of the Walls, floors & NPS's should appear. I tested this for a few hours and pull all graphics on maximum so that my Mac goes to his knees and observed that all the textures disappeared in the last moment. So it had to be something that the GPU does at last. And its the Shadows. BUT one Problem remains: STO didn't allow ZERO (0) shadows. 1 remains in the options and this still causes Graphic problems. If someone had an idea how to bring STO down to ZERO shadows (somewhere in the HKEY options ?!) - this would be a large benefit. In fact this didn't solve the problem but i think - i figured out where it comes from. Cryptic changed something in the shadow rendering process. ----- and sorry for bad English - i'm not English native.

I had similar problems. My 32bit one is not working atm(an older install), but my 64 bit works almost like everyone elses. but instead of ground missing on risa it's the trees. And for some reason I can't get holding down left and right mouse buttons to control direction on the ground. It's very hard to control the flight packs like this. Or did it always work that way?

Aital et al- how did you set up the 64 bit? I was digging around in POM (v4.2.12) and I'm not seeing anything. I had assumed it would be in Tools>Manage Wine versions. I see the X86 button and figured there would be a dropdown box. Nada...

Sunday 25 June 2017 at 1:54 -
If it's like linux it's during the creation of the bottle. It will give the option of 32 or 64 bit. You will have to make a bottle and then transfer the files into it or similar. Then do whatever the patcher does. Or mod the patcher to install into 64 bit if it needs to.
Anonymous
Sunday 25 June 2017 at 17:16 -
it appears to be different. What are you doing on POL to create the bottle? I tried creating a new virtual drive and saw no option for 64 bit there or anywhere else.
Anonymous
Sunday 25 June 2017 at 18:32 -
For POL, I go into configure window where it shows all the bottles I have and at the bottom of the list is a set of buttons for new and remove. If you hit new the first option is a window asking if you want the window to be 32 or 64 bit. something I read said it's not possible on osx yet for windows 64 compatibility. I don't know if it's still relevant though: https://www.playonmac.com/en/topic-12407-64bit.html

Sunday 25 June 2017 at 19:34 -
Wait a minute. I just reinstalled POM and the 64 bit option in the version manager is available. However, like STOGamer, I'm not seeing any version newer than 2.1 staging. Even so I decided to try to create a 64 bit bottle, which is possible. The difficulty I'm having is installing STO in that bottle. POM creates it's own bottle and the installers don't offer the 64 bit option when creating the virtual drive. I'm trying a couple of different things to manually install STO in my 64 bit bottle.

Anonymous
Monday 26 June 2017 at 4:58 -
That sounds about right although it looks like Aital has it working to some extent on Linux. The few things I tried on my Mac revert to the 32 bit virtual drive. What it comes down to is that the changes they made for the Risa summer event screwed us up. I was working great until then.
Anonymous
Monday 26 June 2017 at 11:11 -
@jbieler864 it is a bit different on linux, in addtion on linux it works to some extent with DX11, where on osx it works only with DX10/DX10.1, the 64bit thing is prolly Linux only atm, its a bit more complicated on mac, and as you said yourself, before the summer event it worked perfectly fine for me, altough it took me a very long time to make it work since they ditched DX9

There's a DirectX11 community crossover forum on Codeweavers that offers some insight to the difficulties with implementing DX11 on MacOS via Wine. Has something to do with OpenGL and Metal and how they allocate resources to allow DX11 to work. I did see that High Sierra will include an updated version of Metal that is supposed to be helpful. Guess we'll see.

i got it working, here the solution, navigate to StarTrekOnline/drive_c/users/Public/Games/Cryptic\ Studios/Star\ Trek\ Online/Live/cache and delete all files in that folder, then dont forget to check in POM> configure > wine tab > "wine counfigure" then go to staging tab in the popupwindow, and check if "Hide Wine version from applications" is enabled, if not, enable it, then start the STO launcher, and in the options menu of the launcher start the game first in safe mode, and use minimum settings in the next window from the game, then it might take a while the first time, be patient, it took me around 30mins the first time after that it was normal. btw. works only with wine staging 2.3, at least for me Good Luck
btw. the texture issue/problem still persists

I'm running Zorin 12.1 32 bit on an old laptop with GL ver. 2.0. I added the Hkey GL max thing in registry. I've tried Wine ver 2.3 staging and 2.8 staging with Windows ver xp, 7, and 8. I can patch STO, but everytime I try to run I get the same message saying that my graphics card does not support DirectX 3d ver 10 or above.  Anything else that I can try? (I'm new to Linux). Game was working fine on Windows Vista prior to STO change re DirectX. Thanks.

If your PC is only supporting OpenGL 2, you won't be able to lauch STO, because Direct3D 10 ~ OpenGL 3.x (so the key "hack" won't change anything for you.

PS : you can verify your OpenGL version by typing : glxinfo | grep "OpenGL Version" in a terminal
Monday 5 June 2017 at 23:58 -
I agree with Imperator... it likely won't run.

Also, "Game was working fine on Windows Vista "; That doesn't matter, because Wine on Linux is not Windows. ;)

As for this hack, if someone knows of a way to automatically add this registry hack into the script, lets get it in there so it doesn't have to be done manually.

Hi everyone,

I've also been having issues trying to get Star Trek Online to run on my machine.  I keep getting the error message saying 'Unsupported DirectX Version.'  I'm running I believe Wine 2.6 staging.  Wasn't able to get 2.8 staging recognized for some reason.  I also have an iMac Retina 5K with a AMD Radeon R9 M395X graphics card.  I'm running it as Windows 8.  I also did the registry key thing and changed that to 30002.  Could there be something else I'm missing?  Thanks!

I'm set at 2.3-staging and Windows 7 along with the registry hack and it is working well. Did you use the "Try this update" under Fotofobia's post for the installation of the game? Also, according to several posts one the STO forums, Windows users are reporting that the AMD cards can be a bit problematic. I think it has to do with finding the proper driver.

Open POM and highlight your STO virtual drive. Click Configure in the left pane and then click Wine tab in the next window. Click on Configure Wine. The Wine Configurator window will open. At the bottom of that window you will see Window Version. Click the down arrow and pick your poison. Also double check your registry hack. Its real easy to mess up a registry setting. Make sure the values are set properly. The Hexidecimal value is 30002.

@jbieler864. I tried it with 2.3 staging and Windows 7. I also used the Try this update link for the installation. I also did the Hexadecimal Value of 30002. I'll give it a try again.

Hi All,

I've installed STO on my mac but keep getting the message that my video card is no longer supported.

My Mac has an Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB video card... Is this really too old to be able to play STO or is there any possible way around this? I've tried a number of the updates published here but nothing seems to work.

Thanks in advance.

(The following)

DirectX 10 is roughly equivalent to OpenGL 3.x

So maybe it's STO that doesn't recognize your OpenGL Version, or a bug in Wine

I don't if Check_format_support is alreday implemented in main wine, try using Wine Staging 2.8

You can also try to modify the key : HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Wine Direct3D MaxVersionGL to 30002 (with wine, there is a tool in the wine menu config) seems that this key is blocking some games (first try wine staging 2.8)

I was running it on a 560ti up until my card recently decided it didn't want to live anymore or something. It runs pretty good at low settings. Most of which is because the graphics never seems to show at a super high level even at higher settings. But you can play it with pretty low latency if any at all.

manual install works like a charm, but for some reason script gives bad.exe as it is was running in a 64bit bottle. i coul nor work araound that issue. also i dont understand why 23-staging dosnt draw the wine installer windows for mono and gecko, bur in 2.8-staging it is working.
Wednesday 17 May 2017 at 22:49 -
Don't run it in a 64-bit bottle. 32-bit is the only supported bottle at this point. Wine 64-bit has quite a way to go before it works properly. You will have to use a 32-bit version of Wine. Period.
Wednesday 17 May 2017 at 22:52 -
It keeps saying "bad exe" or whatever because the app is likely failing to install properly. If the install crashes, the exe does not get put into the correct folder, leading to the error.

I found the fix to bypass the unsupported directx error on Play on Mac

you need to create a Registry Entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER--->Software--->Wine--->Direct3D

Create a new DWORD named MaxVersionGL

Value is 3002 Hexadecimal or 196610 Decimal

Hello,

I'm new to PlayOnMac and I'd love to play Star Trek Online.

Installation worked but I've a problem with directX. The STO Game Launcher starts. After pushing the start button there appears the message which says: "Not supported DirectX Version." It seens directX 10 is needed.

I tried to install directX 10 in the PlayOnMac configuration menu.

In Wine I've set the operation system to Win 10.

I've installed dxdiag to test the settings. It's also tells me, that I have installed directX 9.

I'm using Wine2.3-staging

Does anyone have an idea how I can install directX10?

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

Cheers,

Robert

The game is not loading for me after the new patch. It is either the patch or the fact I accidently uninstalled POL trying to install winestaging in normal wine and then reinstalled wine and POL. Is anyone else getting this.

It stops after the cryptic loading screen and on the STO loading screen after. It literally just hangs and never does anything. The debug just stops getting info. I let it sit a while and it didn't resolve itself. Any idea how to get around this?

I think it patched... But it isn't working. It says in the system resources that the process gameclient.exe: Process is sleeping. Process is waiting for something to happen. It ran in the user for like 50 seconds and in the kernel for like 33 seconds. Then it has no more CPU usage but still retains like 650k ish in system memory.

It said something about parent process being systemd. I don't know if that is unusual, but could systemd or something be blocking it now?

I made it behave a little differently. It now has CPU usage now, but still says process is sleeping and waiting for something to happen. Anyone have any ideas? I am playing the game in POL on fedora 25 in KDE... It's past the date and it works fine in 2.3staging. But not in 2.4 or 2.5 staging. I"m surprised another installer hasn't been made. It could use one with someone with more knowledge removing the crashing or fixing the problem with sound. (IE if it crashes wrong and leaves a program in the background it can tie up the sound and you have to close it before sound can be found. then you have to manually set the sound to the correct source.)

The crashing and sound issues don't have to do with the person scripting... Hi. Lol. Wine in 64 bit is not coming any time soon, though it's a work in progress. Check Winehq.org for updates on it. Feel free to add to the script. I have been playing it on ps4, and haven't had time to update the script to see if it works or not. If you have fixes, let us know and we can update the script to fix that stuff. We only know it's broken when people tell us. Last I heard it was some directx issues (check below), but I'd you have it working Let's rework the script. Thanks.
Saturday 15 April 2017 at 3:31 -
I made some updates... Also the whole "Der.. and run it.. blah blah blah"... there is a reason it isn't, and almost every script, is not in 64 bit "bottles". No need to be snarky. If you want to contribute, do so in a respectful manner. Thanks.

There might be a missing things from the wine whatchamacallit. And yes I meant I forgot the 64 bit part(Der means like dope(AKA homersimpson.). It takes me a while to remember what I did in a wine bottle usually. I also followed an old wineHQ thing for back in 1.x and put in riched20, msvcr120. I also have *riched20, *d3dcompiler_43, *d3dx11_42, *d3dx11_43. I don't know what is needed and not needed. Oh, yes. I used 64 bit 2.3 staging of wine in POL. I made a custom bottle. It's 64 bit. You have to have a bottle that is 64 bit for it to work. Change the installer to 64 bit or use a custom install. Mine works.

Yeah, that's what I would like you to clarify. You said "You have to have a bottle that is 64 bit for it to work." This statement makes no sense to me right now and could use some clarification. The official playonlinux installer for sto is his update. Currently if you click on install in playonlinux and select star trek online it will install the game with his parameters. As for making a 64 bit installer, I am at a loss. I just discovered what you were talking about with "bottles" which I think you mean wineprefix. Getting there.
Anonymous
Monday 17 April 2017 at 12:04 -

Anonymous
Monday 17 April 2017 at 12:18 -
I added, "POL_System_SetArch "amd64","(no comma) to the beginning of the create prefix section. Be careful of the install path though. The missing textures, if it's what I ran into, I had to turn all settings low like specifically turn off things like post proccessing and lighting 2.0. anything like post processing make my cloths from certain sets disappear. Some things you can turn up though. Although I don't know if when I turn them up they are actually turned up.
Anonymous
Monday 17 April 2017 at 12:34 -
I have my textures back. But it meant disabling occlusion, cinematic focus, soft particles and turning lighting/shadows to low. Everything else is maxed. The game is now fully playable. Figured this out as you were typing this post by the looks.
Anonymous
Monday 17 April 2017 at 12:40 -
The only issue I had that I don't know might be fixed with 32 bit might be crashes occasionally at screenchanges(sector map to space or ground.) and the crashes I get when changing characters. The CTD from character crashes is the worst part. Specifically for doing grinding of dailies across multiple characters as is needed in this game. Did the 32 bit version or your new 64 bit version run into this too?
Anonymous
Monday 17 April 2017 at 12:43 -
And if you loose sound check there is no game process up after a crash and possibly shutdowns(forced or normal). If it was never present go into options and audio to check the source of sound. The correct ones is several options down for me. Although it still disapears occasionally. My game used to crash and leave a game process up afer every crash which seemed to use up the sound source. So if I started the game the correct option was missing.I had to stop the process from the old games and then restart. AFter this my correct sound source was available and I could select it. But more recently it does not leave a game process after crashing or shutdown.

I guess the next fun part is 2.4 and 2.5... It gets an Invalidarg error.... Or is this the wrong place for that? I have a feeling that will keep happening in later version of wine for some reason.
Monday 17 April 2017 at 16:17 -
64 bit will not work. Period. 64 bit wine is still under heavy development and barely anything works through it at the moment. You may have broken your virtual drive, too. Especially when. Throwing a bunch of dlls in randomly. The people who write the scripts do know what they are doing most of the time. This was tested heavily and working flawlessly before but they updated the game (including the version of directx, if I remember correctly), which would explain some of the issues. When I get off work tonight I will do some testing and see if I can figure replicate your issue and see if I can find out why it's doing that stuff.

Running in 32 is definitely more stable. I have also found to run it in a emulate vm to run a bit smoother. It's ok, just wish the lighting could be better. Not expecting 2.0 but the low quality lighting and shadows really makes any ground activities pretty rough. As more of a space player it's acceptable.

Yea, the problems with crashing are virtually gone in 32bit. But present in 64 bit. I, for some reason, thought 32 bit was gone with DX9. So, I assumed it needed 64 bit.

Nope. This is due to a move to a higher version of DirectX than what Wine currently supports. The Wine developers are working on getting that support implemented.

Hi,

I am using POM the first time so please excuse any missing knowledge.

I installed POM (Version 4.2.10) and then Star trek online directly with the POM Menu without any problems. Then, after the launcher patched the game, i used the start button, thats when a window with a message pops up telling me that my DirectX Version is not suported and that my graphic card wont be supported after the 01.03.2017.

The Game starts after i hit 'OK' but the grafics are very strange and some things arent displayed corectly.

I am trying to play the game on my MacBook Air 2015 / 2,2 GHz I7 / Intel HD 6000 1536MB / 8GB 1600 DDR3

I tried to install DirecX using the POM Menu without succes, i tried diferent Wine Version including the 1.6.2.

Does anyone have a sugestion what i can do to fix this.

 Thanks in advance

Changed to Wine 1.6.2, as that is reported as working across the board, even for OSX.

@Captainpicard30 - Delete your virtual drive for STO, and use the Install feature in POM to try to reinstall it like usual. If the debug output says your are missing a library, then you will need to find and install the freetype lib somehow on to your system. I recently just started using OSX, and am still getting used to resolving dependencies on it.

Monday 23 May 2016 at 0:26 -
The installer won't make a difference. If you want to try a new version of wine, simply install the version you want to use from tools - manage wine versions, and select it for use in the virtual drive. Check the wiki for more info. Also, make sure that you have good drivers for your graphics card installed. I noticed I 's super slow on any Intel graphics, but proprietary Nvidia with a good card works great.at least in my experience. This also doesn't need steam, as it can be installed directly.

Maybe having steam depency would be better in long run. I doubt steam changes programs ids often, but downloadable installers can change quite often
Tuesday 28 July 2015 at 16:33 -
The problem is not that the installer changed; it is just no longer available. I'm well aware of that stuff, but without the installer URL, we need to either use Arc or Steam for content delivery.
Tuesday 28 July 2015 at 16:49 -
Hopefully there is a direct download link available for us to use.

I am going to add the option to install from setup file, as well (the Arc installer). I just started with Steam because it was easy for me. :)

Can bug report #3724 be closed?
https://www.playonlinux.com/en/issue-3724.html

Absolutely. I just closed it out right now. It works great without CSMT on my big system, but we have the staging builds if people want CSMT support for STO.

Does anyone else still have issue with mouselook being gittery? I've tried several wine versions and this issue seems to have returned. Running on Arch.
Thursday 28 May 2015 at 17:34 -
No. I was just playing this last night on my Dell laptop (all intel graphics, on Arch with LightDM and Cinnamon) and just fired it up on my big computer 5 minutes ago (Nvidia cards, Arch, LightDM, Cinnamon) and there are no glitches at all from the mouse. I actually have never seen that issue with this game at all. Maybe try to toggle mouse warp override (configure window, misc. tab)?

Didn't change anything. Also had the thought that my second monitor might be an issue, but disabling it hasn't fixed it. This is on an nVidia 780 /w prop drivers. I can test on my laptop which has a Intel/nVidia 870 setup later and see if its an issue there. Running Plasma 5 desktop. Weird that no one else seems to be getting this, my setup can't be that strange.

If you have multiple monitors, you will want to run it in a virtual desktop (configure window, Wine tab, Wine Configuration, Graphics, check Virtual Desktop and enter resolution.). I have a 4 monitor system on my Nvidia system, with prop drivers, and I run in a virtual desktop, as it just acts like another window. I had a problem with the mouse leaving the screen and messing with the game otherwise. Hopefully that helps. It isn't set by default, because single-screen systems work fine, but for multiple monitors, I almost always enable a virtual desktop. :)

Well! Thanks for the suggestion! Running the game in a virtual desktop has fixed the issue! :)

Excellent. Glad I could help.
