Diablo III testing installer added!

Tuesday 15 May 2012 at 18:13

Hi everybody!

Diablo III has just be added into PlayOnLinux's testing category. For the moment, the installer works only on Linux

It should work without problems, however, the installer needs to be more tested. Consequently, it will be placed in PlayOnLinux testing category

For the moment, the installer is designed for the game downloaded on Blizzard's website. However, we are actively working to make the DVD version compatible.

For those who have the DVD version, you need to mount it manually with unhide option and install it with wine 1.5.4-DiabloIII manually. Don't be afraid, we've planed to support the DVD version very soon.

Edit: Ubuntu 12.04 people who are not able to connect, please run the following command:
echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
MiniatureMiniatureMiniatureMiniatureMiniatureMiniature
logo Install Diablo III

We really need you to send us feedback, even if the game works for you.

Thank you

Quentin PÂRIS

When clicking "Install Diablo III" I get this error:

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (playonlinux) isn't associated with any program."

Do I need to do something first?

Also, I don't have a 1.5.3-DiabloIII to select, only a 1.5.4-DiabloIII, see screenshot:

http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg171/scaled.php?server=171&filename=screenshotat20120515173.png&res=landing

Is 1.5.4 the correct one?
Quentin PÂRIS Tuesday 15 May 2012 at 18:39

Admin

Yep sorry 1.5.4 is the correct one.

For the protocol, you need to assign PlayOnLinux protocol to PlayOnLinux.

Otherwise, you can directly go into PlayOnLinux install's menu

Trying to install but I still have some old school Wine like 1.2, can you tell me how to upgrade this as well as POL?
Quentin PÂRIS Tuesday 15 May 2012 at 22:29

Admin

You don't need to upgrade you system wine. POL installs its own wine version without changing or breaking your current installation

Thanks for the quick reply!
I am installing by the file at /media/Diablo3/Diablo III Setup.exe
It's been at "Updating Setup Files" for about 5 minutes, can't tell if it is hanging or if its suppose to do that. (appears to be at about 60%). Time will tell!

OMG for reall, i will try first thing tomorrow! Got my Diablo 3 CE, but after waiting for over 9 hours for the "Updating setup files' i gave up for today... seems Blizzard couldnt handle over 2 mil. people wanna play/install....

How stupid, they could have avoided it... they knew they would get over 2 mil. logons from the presales... Always suck if you can't play after buying a game...
What ever happend to the good old simple game installs, without the need for intenet, or stupid updates for a brand new game, before you can play it, or even install it...

But after 12 years i can wait another day....
now playing D2... lol...

(BTW Diablo 2 / D2 LOD from cd didnt work for me in POL, i just used the newest Wine, and it installed without any problems...)

Thanks to some help in the forum from the Admins, it's working perfectly for me from a DVD copy now!
EvilMonkey Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 5:30

Hi. I've installed everything correctly (with the online installer) , but can't login to the game (error #3007). Now I have 3 options:

1. I'm using an older PlayOnLinux version: 4.0.14, which comes with Ubuntu
2. Battle.net servers are still too busy (which would truly suck)
3. Communication is blocked by my router (which I doubt)

Should I try updating POL? Or should I wait a day or two, and let Battle.net stabilize?

Thanks a lot for your help.
SadPlayer Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 6:45

I am having a similar problem where no matter what I do, i get stuck on "authenticating credentials" till it kicks me out with error 3007 (basically "you took too long"). I tested it by having a friend log into the same sever and it worked for him. My only option is that its a Linux problem but for the life of me I can't figure out why.

Having trouble finding a 1.5.4 for Fedora 16. I'm still very much a newb, so I am only comfortably familiar with install rpm files. I downloaded the tar.bz and then extracted the files. Not sure where to go from there.
Got the game and really want to play.
GNU_Raziel Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 11:07

@coyotekin : you do not need to download 1.5.4 yourself, PoL will do it for you, juste follow PoL instructions, using our Diablo III installer.

hey
i am using playonlinux the first time

I was searching for diablo 3 and when i should find the exe i take the client downloader and download all files to my ubuntu home

the installation after this failed

now i use diablo 3 again and take as file the downloaded exe file...

it is installing at the moment and i am on the way to updateing the file.
The install folder is again my ubuntu home

that works now i am in the game but i cant press the login button?

i have the version 1.0.1.9558 is that right ?

before i started diablo 3 said my computer is not good enough can i because of that not login to the battlenet?
Hunkn Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 12:59

now it is working ...

but i am not abble to choose this game on my game list always must install it again and then it starts
Mark Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 13:46

Hi,
running ubuntu 12.04, playonlinux 4.0.19, I was able to install and run D3, but I'm not able to login; connection to the server works, but checking login information doesnt.
-> keep getting error 3007, cant get any further....

Anyone got an idea?

Thanks Mark
Ghil Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 13:52

Same thing as well. Everything installs and runs fine, but I get stuck with a 3007 error after a while trying to authenticate.
Quentin PÂRIS Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 15:04

Admin

The problems come from Ubuntu, which breaks wine.

One thing you could try is to assign the version "1.5.3-LeagueOfLegends" to Diablo III once it is installed. Tell me if it fixes your problem
Baco Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 15:42

helo,
First of all, thanks for the great job!
Here installation works great. But now im having same problem described by EvilMonkey and Mark. When i try to login it stucks on "authenticating credentials" and after some minutes its shows error 3007 - Conection lost.

i'm on ubuntu (12.04) and i tryed to change wine version to 1.5.3-LeagueOfLegends but the problem persists.

Blizzard suport recomends to check if the firewalls are blocking the game ports, and to flush DNS cache. i did both and the problem persists.

As far i could see, the 3007 error is an generic error for conection lost. I think there is some problem with the BattleTag system that dont allow us to conect and affter some minutes the cliente shows connection lost. If is realy it, i dont think that there are more things to do than wait blizz solve the problem.
Quentin PÂRIS Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 15:54

Admin

The problems does not come from Blizzard, neither from POL or wine. It seems to come from Ubuntu 12.04
EvilMonkey Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 16:05

Thanks for the update on Ubuntu 12.04. I'll try again tonight with Ubuntu 11.10.
Azathot Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 16:16

Hi,

installation worked just fine (Ubuntu 12.04)

But the game only started in windowed mode and I only could activate full screen after I disabled my second monitor (TwinView). Now everytime I start up the game i get a "Click to retry creating D3D device. Click OK to retry" (doesn't matter if I use both or only one monitor). I'd much prefer to play in fullscreen mode, so I'd appreciate any help with this.

Also I get the 3007 error and it's definitely a Linux problem. I logged in on my Windows partition on the same machine 5 minutes prior without any problems.
Baco Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 16:22

Solve the problem. indeed, it is an ubuntu 12.04 issue.
Type o terminal:
echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope

Before it the login just worked. I dont know well what it realy does (aparently it deativete an securyt feature included on the newer ubuntu kernel), but worked.

i found the solution on the D3 page on wineHQ ( http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=25953 ) on this thread: http://appdb.winehq.org/commentview.php?iAppId=13484&iVersionId=25953&iThreadId=76674

Thanks again for the great job you guys are doing in POL.
Azathot Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 16:30

Thanks Baco (and WineHQ ;)) that fixed the 3007 problem :)
weltenverbesserer Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 21:38

Thanks for the great work you did.

I use POL for the first time and it works good with your description. D3 was installed started and after the comand for 12.04 the login works also. When I close the game POL is still on installing and says “Waiting for D3 to be installed” but it never finish the installing process so I have no launcher icon or anything. To play d3 again I must install it again. Is there any solution out now?

Thanks for all the help first off.

Got the game installed, but ran into another problem. I tried to run it and it gave me an error about graphics card not being updated. So I looked for my graphics drivers, ATI Radeon HS 4650 Laptop, on Fedora 16 32-bit, and installed them. There was an error at the end, not sure why. Either way, ran Diablo 3, pressed Play, and the game disappeared completely.

@msoerensen - This is a Ubuntu bug. Kill pulseaudio

@coyotekin - Ensure that your video driver are installed, and try Configurer -> Packages -> VideoDriver

Anyone knows why I keep getting the dialog box to patch my game?

Basically, it tells me the game needs to be patched, so i click "ok" and it opens the Agent. This one says it's up to date, so i click "play", but it tells me again that my game needs to be patched.

I checked the version number and it's the latest, why do i keep getting this dialog?

thanks!

Hi
Im running DIII on Fedora with playonlinux and it's working fine.

Howto:
1. Get newest Version of playonlinux
2. choose install
3. choose games / DIII
4. Go online and Download the FULL Game Client
(i wasn't able to install from DVD)
5. choose the Gameclient as Setup

well done Guys !

:)
saxo Thursday 17 May 2012 at 12:20

i have the downloaded version from their site. followed your instructions, but when i get to the actual install, it just complains about me not having put in the DVD
gekko_ch Thursday 17 May 2012 at 13:04

did you choose diablo3 from the gamelist
then "use setupfile in my computer"
and then choose the installer file downloaded from Battlenet ?

which version are you trying with ?
saxo Thursday 17 May 2012 at 13:17

the problem is just, that when i get to the install, it gets stuck at 1% and i get the following message: if your installation disc has been rejected, please reinsert it. and try again. if not, or if you keep seeing this error, please log in to Battlenet.net and install Diablo III digitally.

(also note: like i said in the previous post, i am using the downloaded version o:)
dozzer Thursday 17 May 2012 at 13:25

I'm running ubuntu 12.04 64-bit ati radeon 4870 graphics amd x2 5600+ and 4gb ddr2 ram.

The command switching pctrace_scope off works for me most of the times. But sometimes when trying to logg in to diablo 3 it stops taking input (can't click, alt+tab or anything) Mouse moveble and music from game working and also skype call keeps working. That litle window showing loging progress isn't popping up either. Anyone else having this problem?

Other then that ty for the pctache comand! LOVE!!:D

devil Thursday 17 May 2012 at 14:30

Wow this was so easy! Thank you guys so much for making this wonderful software :D

There is only one small issue on my machine : the Blizzard installer completes and lets me play, but the PlayOnLinux wizard stays stuck on "Waiting for Diablo III to be installed". So when I want to play again, I must select install, wait for the virtual drive process, choose the Diablo-III-Setup-enUS.exe file and then the Blizzard installer tells me the game is ready and I can play.

Any tips on my issue?

Web install went smooth. Game won't start for me for some reason. Ubuntu 11.10. Nvidia 425m (hybrid card with bumblebee installed). I added optirun to my wine.lib.

When I start playonlinux from the conlose, highlight Diablo 3 then hit run, nothing happens. It's very strange. How do I get some log or some debug info to be more helpful?!

Thanks,

Tinou: Bumblebee uses optirun to put on the second graphiccard, debugging wont help i think...

shelbydz: You have to run POL in optirun mode.

Used the CE DVD, 11.10 with:

mount

Should give:

/dev/sr0 on /media/D3C1.0.0 type udf (ro,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,umask=0077,dmode=0500,uhelper=udisks)

if so:

sudo umount /dev/sr0
sudo mkdir /media/Diablo3
sudo mount /dev/sr0 /media/Diablo3 -o unhide,unhide,uid=$(id -g)

Clicked install Diablo III in POL, selected the exe on the cd, and it installed so fast, before the story during install was finished, the game was installed!

See the forum for more info.

I was using the playonlinux and just followed the instructions and when I try to launch it now I get the "click to retry reating a D3D device thing".

Could it be that this is all amd64 architectures? or maybe proprietary nvidia drivers?

I'm having problems running Mumble and Diablo 3 at the same time. I start Mumble, connect to a server. Start PlayOnLinux and Diablo 3, get to the login screen, type in credentials, hit login everything hard freezes up. I can still hear audio from Mumble and even the game audio, but I can't switch to a terminal to kill PlayOnLinux. Requires a hard reboot to get it back. Any thoughts?

I'm having a similar problem to kerigano (i think). Game installed fine. Then when i click "play", what should be the splash screen shows up in the middle of the screen, except it's just a big translucent square with a shadow around the edges in the center of my screen, then an error reporting dialog pops up that wants to send an error report to blizzard... see http://imgur.com/a/lmjcf to see series of screenshots

From what I have understood, the freezing is related to the mesa driver, the graphics are more than a bit disorganized with D3, and there are too many calls comming at once. There is a mesa patch but I had to get out of Ubuntu and Mint to get it to work.

Ubuntu 12.04
PlayOnLinux 4.0.19
Downloadable D3 / Used POL Diablo III installation method
Radeon 6410HD

Got the game to work fine after a little bit of fuss. Here's my story ^_^

First, the downloader somehow went to a black screen when I passed the download percentage from Setup to Playable. Had to hard reset. Returning to the installer it began back at 25%. Hitting Play at this time the message "Launching..." appeared on the screen, the download stopped, and nothing happened. Had to use the "Close All PlayOnLinux software" menu option on POL to end it and restart it. After downloading for 14 hours the game finished (crappy internet). While it was installing I ran the 'echo' console code listed in the main post.

Hitting Play caused the "Coudn't initialize graphics even on default settings. Please shut down any other 3D apps and try again." error message. Closed down D3 using the "Close All PlayOnLinux software" menu option and reopened. Launcher loaded fine after updating the game files (about a minute) and hitting Play launched the game.

At the login screen the first thing I did was lower the video quality setting to Low. This caused some weird graphical glitches to the text, making capital C's, Q's and lowercase x's disappear. I switched back to High detail and the letters came back. The audio was choppy and played at about 6x the normal speed but I figured I'd fix it later.

Hitting login after putting in my information caused the game to freeze. Mouse was still moveable but could not pull up terminal or get out of the game. Had to hard reset. First thing I did after reset was run the 'echo' console code and then restarted the game. The game hung at launch at a gray screen but corrected itself after about ten seconds. At the login screen I noticed the sound had fixed itself. Went back into the settings to see if the letters still disappeared on low quality and they did so I switched back. After logging in I got the authenticating window and after accepting all of the terms and agreements I got through to character creation.

Haven't actually played yet but just wanted to say that I got it running fine. Don't know how gameplay will be but I thought I'd post this first. Good luck!

Well, I jynxed myself. I can no longer connect to the game after posting. I keep freezing after hitting Login, even after using the 'echo' console code. *sigh*

Anyone have any fix for this? I don't understand why it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. I'm sick of hard resetting my computer haha.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04

So I've tried about 20 times, using different methods, to get from the login screen (which loads every time) to the game loading after I hit "Start Game".

First I start with this;
echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scopeWithout it I can't bypass the authenticating status. The problem is that 90% of the time that I use this the game will freeze upon clicking login. The second that I hit login the button stays pressed in, the music will continue to play until it has to loop an then stops, and my entire computer seizes up so I have to hard reset.

The five times out of, oh I don't know, 30 times I've tried this and it works I get to make my character (or pick my character). But when I hit "Start Game" I get another second of character animation and then it freezes. Thankfully I can xkill to get out of the game but then I have to deal with the whole echo code again. I've tried lowering all of the settings to either low or off in case it's my video card but that doesn't help. I hope this gets fixed in the next day or two. I just want to play.
NeverConvex Monday 21 May 2012 at 22:48

Having exactly the same issue as Annoyed:

"But when I hit "Start Game" I get another second of character animation and then it freezes."

Still have mouse movement, and I can cause the cursor to change between black and white by moving about the screen; I'm suspicious the game may have actually begun, but I'm stuck staring at the final frame of the character creation screen, instead of whatever's supposed to be rendered as the initial entry scene into the game.

Also had issues connecting to BNET initially, but the echo code and using Full Screen Windowed Mode seems to correct that. D3 defaults to full screen but I don't seem to be able to login to BNet that way; when I attempt to switch to non-fullscreen windowed mode, the screen becomes non-responsive to mouse clicks though I still have full mouse control. Eventually it reverts back -- similarly to my suspicions about the game rendering but the wrong process(es) being foregrounded, I think it's actually testing the Windowed Mode, but something is going Horribly Wrong (TM), and so I don't actually get to see the "Does it look OK? 20, 19, 18..." window, and my video doesn't restore to normal until the revert-to-previous-settings counter elapses, I figure.

I don't really understand how to use the POL debugger, but I was curious whether this line (in my POL debugger file for Diablo III, under Virtual drives) had any significance: "GameSession: Could not set the process of the pid 61 to the foreground." Is the process with id 61 maybe running the game in the background while I'm unable to leave the character creation screen/associated process(es) for some reason?
NeverConvex Monday 21 May 2012 at 23:01

Enabled the debugger and went through the steps up to freezing at Start Game; the debugger's filled with a bunch of lines that all mostly look like:

After a few worrying and unexpected returns to being frozen at the log-in screen, managed to get back to the character creation. Tried to join a public game, got to the point of seeing "Searching for a game... 0 seconds..." but the timer never changed from 0 seconds -- froze up.

Inspecting the debug log after a hard reset produced the same "Can't find format unrecognized <a-bunch-of-hex-here> in the format lookup table" lines and several of these as the final few lines:

Hi everybody!

I have a really strange issue with my Diablo III.

My computer is:

Ubuntu 12.04
4 GB RAM
512 MB Nvidia Geforce 7025.

I don't know why, but when I run Diablo III (the instalation worked fine) appears this message:

"Your graphics adapter is not compatible with Diablo III"
"S.O: Windows XP Service Pack 3"
     "Graphics Adapter: Nvidia GeForce 6200"

This is obviusly an error. My Graphics adapter is a Geforce 7025, not 6200.

¿Anyone have any idea about what it's happend?....

Thanks for a lot!

Zikilin -

It may be that the configuration settings in POL are making your graphics card appear to not have capabilities that Diablo 3 expects it should have, and so is changing what video card Diablo 3 auto-detects you as having? I say this because I noticed that if I disable OpenGLSL, Diablo 3 gives me...

""Your graphics adapter is not compatible with Diablo III"
"S.O: Windows XP Service Pack 3"
"Graphics Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 3100"

... when I hit "Play," and won't let me proceed. However, if I enable OpenGLSL, it seems to acknowledge that I'm actually running an ATI Radeon HD 6600 (the graphics card indicated when I use the lspci -v | grep VGA command in a terminal), and lets me into the BNet log-in screen. (where I eventually run into either the Log-in or Start Game freeze issue)
horse Tuesday 22 May 2012 at 4:28

Update:

I updated POL to version 4.1.1, reinstalled the d3 from scratch and now when i click on play i get the transparent square in the center of my screen (with the shadow around the edges), then i get a new error message saying "Diablo 3 cannot run because this graphics card is missing required features. Updating your driver may fix this." see http://imgur.com/m7Org for the exact error.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Works for me in Ubuntu 11.04. However, I installed it before the PlayOnLinux script. I did the following:

* Downloaded latest from wine git repo
* Patched with Reset and AcceptEX patches
* Compiled
* Added new wine manually to PlayOnLinux
* Installed via the web installer

My compiled wine version can be found here. I know it works under 11.04; however, 12.04 users haven't been able to make it work.

Tried Conzar's pre-compiled Wine (in Ubuntu 11.10) -- gets to the end of the download / install, but misdetects my graphics card (says it's a Radeon 3200) and tells me it's not compatible with D3, similarly to Zik's issue.

hi. i feel a bit ridiculous now since i registered on the forum to post my results with this installer when i could just post here. :)
oh well.
i'll just repost what i wrote in the forum;

i ran the installer for diablo3 and it installed and launched fine!
but without sound.
i checked the wine settings for d3 under the audio tab, tried all different settings, no sound when i press the "test sound" key.
i tried running winecfg from command line. it looks the same but when i press the "test sound" button, the sound works.
also, if i switch "wine version", i have sound (at least in the settings). but can't launch d3.
on some forum they talked about an emulation option but i can't see one.
i'm running a newly updated ubuntu precise with playonlinux 4.1.1.
i'm using a geforce gt520 graphics card with hdmi audio.
sound works fine otherwise in webbrowsers aplay etc.

Got Conzar's wine build to get me into BNet and the character select screen (forgot I'd left a registry entry for UseGLSL = disabled; changing it back corrected the video card misdetect). Freezes when I hit Start Game, though, as with POL.

Works fine most of the times on my Kubuntu 11.10, Radeon HD 4500 series 512MB, Catalyst 12.1.
For some reason it stalls if I exit the game and then execute it again. I had to power down and reboot a few times. Same thing happens, occasionally, after pressing the Login button.
Aside from that on my system the scrolling slows down and speeds up continuously while moving, making the gameplay not very fluid if compared to how it works on my win$ partition. I would have thought it would slow down when there are many monsters moving on screen, but that's not the case, combat is quite enjoyable. Any thought on that?
Anyway, great job guys.

Paul Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 20:54

Hi,

First of all, thanks a lot for allowing us to play at this game on Linux.

About my installation, everything was fine. But when I tried to launch the game by clicking on the "Play" button of the Diablo 3 launcher, I got the following error message :

We have detected that your video card is not supported by Diablo III.
Operating System: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce3

And then it redirects me to http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-unsupported-video-card-list

The problem is that, in reality, I have a Radeon HD 5700... I guess there is a way to configure the video card in Wine but since I'm new to both POL and Wine, I couldn't find a way. I only find how to change the version of Windows. I'm on Debian Wheezy using POL 4.1.1 and Wine 1.0.1.

Thanks for your help. Regards,

Paul.

I'm getting the same "Waiting for Diablo III to be installed" message that persists past game close.

When I try and create a shortcut, I'm shown three copies of Agent.exe and three copies of Blizzard Launcher.exe - no reference to the actual game client. I've tried using each of these to create the shortcut, but all of them result in a crash when trying to run them.

I also tried to manually select my exe file, which resides in ~/Diablo III/ . POL reported that it couldn't find the binary when I tried that one.
Karthik T Tuesday 5 June 2012 at 1:23

I have the same problem as andrew, if i install in any non default location, i expect i would have this issue. However along with the agents and the blizzart launchers i also had an option to create the shortcut for diablo 3 setup that is created somewhr in the virtual device, and the game runs through that.
Alternatively, i can go to configure-> diablo 3 ->miscellaneous-> run a .exe in this virtual drive and select the actual game binary and this works as well.
Otherwise the game works fine for me, if a little laggy, then again mine is an old gfx card on an older machine.
I had to use the kernel command else i was stuck at authenticating

Thanks guys!

Matthew Friday 8 June 2012 at 21:43

OK so I was having problems at first. here is exactly what I did to get this to work on Ubuntu 12.04.

1) I went here: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5594218401
and followed the steps to uninstall Wine (incorrect version) and get the right version that is compatible with diablo

2)After I inserted D3 into DVD drive I entered in terminal:
sudo umount /dev/sr0
sudo mkdir /media/Diablo3
sudo mount /dev/sr0 /media/Diablo3 -o unhide,unhide,uid=$(id -g)

3)I started up PlayonLinux and followed the steps:
Click Install
Setup new virtual drive
Wine version - Other - System
then selected choose my own file (Not the Diablo3 CDRom)
browsed to the DVD and selected the install.exe file.

4)Voila! It installed!

Hope this helps anyone contemplating a Windows install - ITS NOT WORTH IT!

With Mandriva 2011.0, installation and start are OK, but the game hangs when checking the battle.net credentials, a.k.a. log-in freeze.

I don't know if it's because of

* a bug in the driver of my ATI radeo 4870 video card (AMD Catalyst version 12.3)

So I used your playonlinux installer and have to say: great job!

Additions: using it on kubuntu 12.04 64bit

I had to manually install xterm because it is not in the dependencies of playonlinux.
To get connection to battlenet i made a init conf which I saved on:

/etc/init/diablo.conf

Contents:

start on local-filesystems
stop on deconfiguring-networking

script
echo 0|tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
end script

This evades having to use "echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope" after each reboot.

@ cyfer

you need to execute

as it is written in red letters above for 12.04 users.

kind regards,
thestef Tuesday 25 September 2012 at 11:08

echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope

Works for me

There is an permanent solution, without giving that command after every restart.

sudo gedit /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf and change the line:

kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 1

to read:

kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 0

Now you can login to battle.net even after a reboot of your system

Hi,
Since May 2012 I used to use POL to play Diablo3 and it worked very well !! (great job !). But 2 days ago I had a system crash… I wasn’t able to solve it simply, so I have decided to re-install my LMDE. All is stable again , but… I can’t play D3 any more :cry:
I used POL again and to correctly install D3, I have done a reset of the data linked to playonlinux (I have the same “/home” than previously) and I have cleanly removed the previous install of D3.
The new installation is ok: the launcher has been correctly added to my desktop and when I click, the D3 launcher works well. When I click on “Play” in the launcher, it works well too: it takes into account the click and I have the two “zoom-blink” I have ever had before. But after this point all is bad: the screen turns to black (not a switch off but just black color) and turns back to a freeze screen of the desktop with a freeze screen of the Diablo face.
My system is the same than the previous one:
- Linux Mint Debian Edition up to date
- Last NVIDIA proprietary driver installed (I have a NVIDIA graphical board, GTX 285)
- Playonlinux installed (up to date - 4.1.8)
- D3 installed from the DVD
The only difference I noticed is the wine version used by playonlinux: previously 1.5.4_Diablo3 and now 1.5.5_Diablo3.
Have you ever experiment that?
Has somebody any advice to solve my problem?
Can somebody help me?
Thanks!

Hello want to share another solution of the kubuntu 12.04 login problem without typing every reboot, i want to play, the cmd or add the permanent workaround.
I tried to add the workaround cmd to the exec line from the PoL shortcut Diablo III but got error something like no sudo.
So i tried it with kdesudo in the exec line:
echo 0 kdesudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
and with this it works in exec line.
If this doesnt work,
the | was removed dont know why, maybe it works with it,
on Ubuntu try it with the gnome sudo cmd, dont know name
and if it doesnt work anyway i have no idea for me it works.
And lots of thx to the PoL Team for this great work with PoL go on like this.

Hi, this works very well in my system:
Opensuse 12.2

The install was normal, i think this take 20~30min from DVD.
The resolution started with 800x600, after i changed to 1280x720(wide screen).
The image of the game seems a bit blurry.
The sound seems ok, but my sound hadware isn't good and i can't confirm the quality
of the sound. For me this is ok.
The game play is little slow, but satisfactory.

The image from my game:

end: http://i49.tinypic.com/xng8d3.jpg

The general resources used by system take 20~40% from cpu and 16~20% from my memory. This is great!

Hi again!!

I changed the screen resolution to 1440x900. The "blurry" effects that I commented previously disappeared!!

But the game didn't become slow with this change. But I think that is slow than in windows.

I've just complete Diablo3 Install on my Ubuntu without a problem, but when I try to run the game, it stats to check for updates and the "Checking for Updates" bar does not move. Its been over half and hour of frozen update bar and I have a pretty fast conection (at least fast compared to other brazilian conections...) and I played it on Windowns without a problem, on the same Laptop and internet conection.

Any clues on what might be happening?

Version- Diablo 3 DVD-ROM.
Ubuntu 12.04, PlayonLinux, Wine. Gameplay works great. Only issue that I am having is that I cannot currently use the keyboard for anything in the game and im not sure why.

Worked straight out from the gate! Saucy 13.10 build. Not a single problem encountered! Great job!

Diablo 3 DVD
Ubuntu 13.10 x64 running vanilla Gnome3 (not unity)
Hardware: iMac 27" ~2010

Installation worked perfectly! Gameplay was acceptable with a few little problems:
--The sound was garbled when someone spoke (they sounded like they were speaking 100x fast)
--My mouse cursor became invisible, so I had to exit out.

I'm actually confident that the issues are due to my hardware and gnome3, not due to play on linux. Take it from an old school linux guy: you guys made the configuration, installation, and game SIMPLE compared to the old days of manually configuring WINE!

Thank you!

I was having problems with my drivers and just for shits I entered

echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope

is there a way to go back to whatever I just did?

I still can't play the game and now I just took a step back :(
