Hello! I have installed this with PlayOnMac and there are black lines across the whole screen, rendering the game literally unplayable. Help please!

Hi,

without further information it's nearly impossible to help you, first, describe your hardware (OSX version, CPU, GPU, ect...) then check the PlayOnMac logs for this game it may spot the problem.

EDIT :
Just saw your other thread, it seems you are now using the official PoM install script as it clearly do NOT use wine 1.5.9-raw3 (far too old version). First use the official PoM installer before posting problem.

Regards,

Ok, sorry. Do you know what the problem is though?

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

Quote from TheMaster

This card is definitly not suited for this game, minimal requirement is a GPU with 512MB. Add this with the very bad affinity of wine and ATI/AMD card and you will and up problem like this most of the time.

The only things you can try is :
- Update display driver (automatically done by OSX update if I remember right so probably hopeless)
- Set the game preferences to the very minimun ans see if the game launch, if it is, re-enable graphic settings one by one until you find the one making the game bug.

There is nothing more we can do.

Actually there is no "problem", no usefull information in the logs, that's why I said we cannot help you more. I think it's a GPU or driver problem, to both of them we cannot help.

Thank you for your help. The issue seems to be with Wine as the game actually runs ok with the exception of the black lines. Maybe it is a Wine config problem. Does anyone here have a Mac? If so is it working with TR 2013?

Its your card/driver and wine combined. Either upgrade the driver, if possible, or upgrade the card. Your card has very low specs for this game, and AMD/ATI are notorious for driver issues, so if updating the driver to the newest one doesnt work, then you would be better off getting a different card. I honestly, for any new game like this, wouldnt recommend anything under 1GB on the GPU, otherwise you may not meet minimum requirements and/or have to run it at low graphics settings, which just kills the HD aspect of newer games.

This is one of the main reasons I stick with Nvidia cards. I dropped ATI years ago specifically because of garbage drivers.

Is it possible to upgrade the card of a iMac 21.5-inch mid 2010? I will try to update the drivers.

I have no clue. Sounds like a job for Apples support line or a google search. lol

Ok, thanks.
I have tweaked the graphics settings so it is playable, but i have another issue.
The mouse does not lock in, so when the mouse reaches the edge of the screen it stops, and i cant look that way any more in the game. Any way to lock the mouse?

This is a missing feature of wine for OSX, the mousegrab option seems to do not work as intended.

Sometimes, click outside the game screen then back inside fix this issue, at least in windowed mode (wine window mode - use winecfg, not game window mode)

This probably sounds really stupid, but how do i get to the wine cfg's?

EDIT: Figured it out.

I had no idea disabling the Steam Overlay (Steam community) would increase performance.
I'll have to try it

The mousegrab option is really messed up :/
I hope Wine fixes this, also the TR update news said something about they are trying to fix crashes and "major graphical corruption" for nvidia card users. I don't have nvidia, but i do have major graphical corruption, so maybe when they finally update and fix it for nvidia users, it will work for me.

Unfortunately us Linux users are at the mercy of the game developers, video drivers, Steam, Wine and PlayOnLinux.

Are you having problems with the mouse leaving the window or the movement only reduced 180 degrees?

Reduced movement, like when my mouse reaches the edge of the screen, i cant look that way anymore in TR. Makes it hard to kill dem things :P

Try these options to fix the mouse problem...

Mouse Options:
1. Click Configure
2. Select Virtual Drive
3. Click Wine Tab
4. Click Configure Wine
5. Click Graphics Tab
6. Check “Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows”

Virtual Desktop:
1. Click Configure
2. Select Virtual Drive
3. Click Wine Tab
4. Click Configure Wine
5. Click Graphics Tab
6. Check “Emulate a virtual desktop”
7. Desktop Size: 1024x768 or (Match your desktop)

Note: The game will appear to be full-screen if you match the size of your desktop. You may have to lower the resolution of your desktop first to keep a decent frame rate in game.

I have tried this with several games and has worked in some situation... like Dead Space & Mass Effect 2.

Guys,

Could someone drop me some short how-to install TR2013 on POL ? I never installed any games via POL therefore I don't even have a reference in regards to what am I doing wrong.

I went to the POL, installed TR2013 from the games. Than I was forced to open steam account which I did.

Now I have:
- Steam (tomb raider 2013)
- Tomb Raider (2013)

None of which works.

Do I install now TR from CD or should it work from steam ?

Lots of Step-by-step guides on GamersOnLinux but no Tomb Raider yet. We have gotten other games like Crysis 2 and Skyrim running in Steam, so it shouldn't be much different.
