Hi all,

Hopefully someone out there has had some experience with this program. It is a dialogue editor for games.

http://www.chat-mapper.com/download/ (free to download the basic version)

I contacted the developers and they say that it requires .net 3.5 to work as well as Windows Presentation Framework (WPF). I was able to download 3.5 but I have no idea about WPF. From a little googling about it I can only seem to find posts that are several years old.

I used the latest version of wine which installed Mono and Gecko but I still can't run the program.

This is what I get from my debug,

[05/12/13 10:08:56] - Running wine-1.5.30-1.5.30-1 Chat Mapper.exe (Working directory : /home/matthew/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Chat_Mapper/drive_c/Program Files/Chat Mapper)

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Are you trying to create a Game for Windows and include a Windows chat capability?
Chat mapper requires dotnet3.5 because Windows Presentation Framework requires it, but I have a feeling you are the first to try it with Wine and PlayOnLinux.

I recommend using Windows for developing Windows games and chat.
But there are some Linux native chat programs, which means you will have to develop your game in Linux.

Why not use an open-source API for chat?

Thank you for your advice.

Chat mapper is just a tool to develop the dialog that will export to an XML file that I can use in Blender which will deploy to Windows, OSX and Linux. I used this program for a bit in windows but I want to develop my games in linux which is why I came here to see if it is viable.

There don't seem to be many programs like this on the market. Maybe other programs out there provide this functionality but I really liked the layout and the workflow of this program.

That said I haven't found a way to make this program work despite many different configurations so I may have to look for alternatives.

Yeah this will be difficult if no one else has done it before. You could be the first, but you will need some Linux programmers and Python programmers to help you integrate it into Blender.
Can't help you with that... sorry

Blender is Open-Source and written in Python, so Im sure you could implement anything that you wanted. Just gotta know python or find a python dev that would be willing to help with this.

Also, next time your thread is closed or locked, ask an admin why it was closed. I noticed that you already had a thread with the exact same info and it was locked. Its etiquette and rules. Just keep it in mind. :)

Yes the developers told me that they had had no cases of linux so they couldn't really suggest much other than a virtual machine. I don't want to pester any developers when it seems that I would be the only person that would benefit.

I know python but I am not a developer. I'll see if I can do some tinkering in blender and see what comes of it.

I did speak with an admin called Petch. We exchanged a few emails and he basically said that he couldn't unlock the post so to just open another. The other post had been deleted though so I don't know why it has come back.

Oh - and as far as integrating it into Blender; not a problem. All I need is the XML file which can be read and used in Blender. Lemon Sqeezy.

Awesome, let us know if you end up using Chat Mapper or some other Chat program. I'm just curious because I'm an avid gamer and love knowing what people are developing... specially for Linux.
