Hi there,

I'm new here, so I don't know which information you need.

I just purchased Wizardry 8 from GOG, version 2.0.0.6 (obviously a special GOG version as the latest patch version was 1.2.6). As there's no install script, I chose to install it manually. I use Ubuntu 12.04.2.

3DSetup.exe, used to configure video and audio settings, offers only resolutions 640x480 and 800x600 (each 16bpp). If I manually edit 3DVideo.cfg to

OpenGL
1280
1024
24
DirectSound3D Software Emulation

Quote

and start Wizardry 8, it complains: "Video device does not support video resolution".

I installed mfc40 and vcrun6, I tried msvcr8 and different versions of Wine, all without success.

Best regards,

Masin

2.0.0.6 is their installer's version, not game's version.

it's a beta script so you have to enable "Testing" to see it.

What makes you think this game supports other resolutions?

Hi petch!

2.0.0.6 is their installer's version, not game's version.

Ok, that explains it.

I didn't see that one, thanks.

This comment.

I'd be content with 800x600 if there's a way to switch tasks without corrupting my window layouts due to different resolutions of application and desktop.

None mentions the GOG version though.
Could be that they didn't ship the OpenGL renderer and you're looking at software rendering resolutions or something...
Do you have the same restrictions if you select DirectX or 3dfx/Glide?

Yes. Whatever I select, I can only choose between 640x480 and 800x600. See screenshots.

"I went into my Wizardry 8 folder and manually deleted all the nGlide/3Dfx stuff and now every resolution is available and works like a charm!"
Does that work for you?

Wonderful! That worked. And now that you found that, I believe I remember having done something like that a decade ago. Can't tell if it was for Wiz 8, but that's something I'll surely forget in a few years again.

Here, take a look at this screenshot. That's how it's supposed to look! Thanks a lot. :-)

I just wonder, why the GOG forums didn't turn up when using Google. I didn't even know they existed.

Hi MasinAD,
GoG's version of Wiz 8 doesn't use 3DSetup.exe for the display settings, but nglide_config.exe.

The Glide setup has more options and most notably the option to maintain the 4:3 aspect ratio. Without this option, the image is stretched on wide screen resolutions.
