Hello,

I've been struggling with Crysis. I've even checked some older tips on Wine and added two more dlls.

So i created wine64 prefix, installed, swtiched to winxp, added libraries, added -dx9 to arguments... it doesn't launch. simmilar issue on windows apaprently.

so i got Crysis:Warhead (nealry platinum btw) and moved its 64bin folder to Crysis. now game starts. i get the EA logo, the menu, i can change graphics and such with no issues, then i launch the game and the intro movie plays out and then all i get is black screen. disk is running for a while, then nothing. how do i continue to troubleshoot?

here is the log: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/xK2qfXszB7/

these are the PC specs (i have to say i just did a kernel+nvidia driver upgrade after pulling these specs, but i doubt any of that is what was causing the issue):

ok. i will try this guide and see what happens: http://www.gamersonlinux.com/forum/threads/crysis-guide.252/

the guide is written for DVD version of the game. i already tried it on existing install, but it doens't work. i will retry with 32bit prefix. though wine appdbstates that you need to specifically run 64bit prefix to run the game.

i would still like to know where do i get the feedback informaiton to see what actually went wrong. in wine you get it in terminal, but here the debug logs acts as if everything was OK.

following the guide did not work as well. I get a small wine window that is so tiny you can't see the buttons for install. i tracked the issue down to this: https://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-15209.html

i moved the newer libs to this folder and i could install but i am back to where i was. the intro movie (EA...) does not load.

according to this you should use 64 bit version: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=35533

but that ends up with blank screen as well. the farthest i came is using crysis:warhead libraries. that one launches the intor movie (EA...). loads the menu and i can set things in there (resolution, keys etc), but then i get to game intro movie which plays fine and then i get black screen.

could someone maybe try it out and let me know how to install it rather than send me to various old links and guides? or at leats tell me how to troubleshoot it.

I figured it out. and it is a bit stupid (see below).

1. create 64 wine prefix using system wine (i am on 18.04)

2. configure wine - then select windows xp

3. install the game.

4. manually create shortcut to /GOG Games/Crysis/Bin64/Crysis.exe

5. when you run it the game crashes when you run it with only option to click OK. but maybe it creates some setting file or something. all i know is i didn't do it like this before. and always just got a blank screen.

6. Create another shortcut but this time to /GOG Games/Crysis/Bin64/Crysis64.exe

and it loads and it works! likely on dx9, but it works.

some people on laptop had issues with battery meter. setting the run command to crysis64 -dx9 should take care of that.

tested on (since first post i had some updates):

Host: blackmesa Kernel: 5.4.0-42-generic x86_64 bits: 64

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700

Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.12.9 Distro: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS

OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 1650/PCIe/SSE2 version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 440.1
