MS Office 2010: Installation language not supported

Hello, I don't believe this is necessarily a POL-specific problem (I encountered it when using vanilla wine as well), but since POL is the layer I use to interface with wine, and since I have had success with it to install Office before, I am asking here.
Wine is as downloaded by POL (1.5.16), stable versions from Ubuntu repos (1.4) also reside on system
POL latest version, generic binary file run from $HOME
Using the ibus IME for CJK input (mentioned only for locale issues)
I used POL before to install a trial of Office 2010 pro. No problems and the scripts went smoothly. My trial is expiring and I had to purchase a full copy. I bought Office 2010 Home & Student. It wasn't possible to use the key on my trial version to just upgrade it, so I had to install from scratch. My laptop doesn't have an optical drive so I made an ISO of the Office DVD on another computer, then mounted it locally.
When I try to install with POL, I select the mount point or browse to the setup exes (I have tried both) and select the x86 setup files to ensure 32-bit compatibility. POL starts to download the .net frameworks and msxml files, then launches the setup file. Immediately an error appears: Installation language not supported. I have duplicated the error on a separate install of wine, after using winetricks to install .net and msxml. This also happens when I create a new wine prefix and try to install out of the box. Same happens if I create a virtual drive in POL and run the executable from there.
I think this error originally is meant to refer to a locale issue (e.g. locale different from software language), but my locale is en_US.UTF-8 so no problem here. Based on research, this error is a false positive produced from other issues (see links).
Libxslt is from repos and I don't believe there is any problem there. My suspicions are that the problem is as described in the first thread, i.e., a prolem with the msxml install or something missing in the wine configuration. I never had this problem with Office 2010 Pro trial, FWIW. Alternatively, something may be wrong with the ISO or my mount method, though this was done in a standard fashion.
Console output follows:
As you can see, the error occurs only in the last 5-10 lines when the program tries to launch the setup.exe file.
If, after the POL window says installation failed, I click Next, it tries the following, and then quits. Needless to say nothing is installed.
On the DVD, Word and the other suites are contained in .cab and .msi files. Maybe the script is looking in the wrong places?
In my desperation, I removed the trial version I am using with three weeks remaining, to make sure it had a clean place to install. That didn't work, so now I'll have to install it again...!
Thanks in advance.
