I'm sorry if I'm giving incomplete information.I'm just a little unsure what to post other than the errors I'm getting from the debug log.

Well, this is another example of you not reading. :)

I said that you are not even getting playonlinux STARTED, and you are showing WINE debug output. NOT PlayOnLinux debugging output, which tells me that you are trying to run:

wine programname

You are not just posting incomplete information (You dont have to be sure what to post. Just post ALL OF IT, UNEDITED), but you are posting errors from a DIFFERENT PROGRAM. The information is not even just incomplete, but edited, too.

So, first thing is first, you need to understand how to install and actually RUN playonlinux, because you have not done so at all almost this whole time.

The problem is, the newest version of POL isnt available using the install method listed above. I have bumped that ticket to HIGH priority, so that we can get that fixed right away, and you can install it like its supposed to be installed.

Again, its not that you are giving incomplete info, you are not even saying what you are doing, and editing/chopping up debug info from WINE, not from PlayOnLinux, which you have to understand, are 2 different ways to the same goal.

Do you understand that? :)

The debug log that I have been running is from the PoL config tab.Does this launch wine's debug? How do I know if I'm running wine's debug or PoL's debug?

That pretty much tells me I have no clue what I am doing then. What Should I do to get you the right information? Can you also tell me what to do so I now for sure that I'm doing this correctly? I would also like to say thank you for helping me with this issue

What Should I do to get you the right information?

Citar

Ive been telling you over and over and over how to get the information.

RUN playonlinux FROM THE TERMINAL
COPY AND PASTE ALL ERRORS FROM THE TERMINAL.

Its been stated multiple times in both of your posts, and you actually did it once, but have failed to do the same every other time. You are skipping parts of your story, not telling us all of the info.

Can you also tell me what to do so I now for sure that I'm doing this correctly?

Citar

Go back and re-read everything again. Read ALL of playonlinux's manuals and documentation.

I would also like to say thank you for helping me with this issue

Citar

Youre welcome, but its not helping, because you leaving out information, you have probably not even started playonlinux today, you are not telling us what commands you are typing, you are editing your output of the debug, giving us the wrong debug, and you keep asking questions that have been answered at least twice, like how to post your terminal output.

I cannot help anymore. You need to re-read all POL related documentation, as well as the threads we have participated in, so that you can understand it better. I do not know how to be any clearer. I am sorry.

Not running 4.2.1, which is the current version. Uninstall 4.2, and upgrade to 4.2.1.

So, again, you started POL...... Run something now. Just starting POL doesnt do anything, as I stated on the previous page. If you dont install or run software in POL, this output doesnt do anything but tell me that you started playonlinux.

Now that you have POL RUNNING, Click Install, and install The Sims 3 from the list that pops up.

Has the issue with the Arch Linux package been resolved? I can't install it unless that version has been updated.
Ronin DUSETTE Thursday 4 April 2013 at 22:37
Ronin DUSETTE

I understand that. For some reason I thought that you were still running from the source package. Disregard that for now. Im still working on getting the Arch version fixed. :)

So, lets move on.

Now that you have POL RUNNING, Click Install, and install The Sims 3 from the list that pops up.

You will have to check the box that says "No-CD Needed" for the script to come up in a search in that install window.

Does this work for the steam version of sims 3?That's the version I have.

I dont know. I dont have that game on Steam. It says that it needs a "no-cd" mod, which I could guess that it should work from the steam version.

Nope it doesn't work for me.It's asking for a setup file or dvd rom neither of which I have.
I did keep track of what it tried to install though. it installed dotnet20 sp1 and sp2 and adobe flash player.I'm going to try to install those and see if I can get the Launcher to run.
Ronin DUSETTE Thursday 4 April 2013 at 23:38
Ronin DUSETTE

Wait. DOnt install anything yet. You didnt understand what you were reading. It already installed that stuff.

Delete the sims virtual drive and try again. Do exactly as I am saying, and it should work.

You have to have a setup file if you have a downloaded steam version. How else were you expecting to install it?

since you dont know what you are doing, dont you think that it would be better to wait for my response before going click happy and doing stuff that will make matters worse in terms of getting the game to work? Slow down, and wait for an answer. Otherwise I cannot help you. Im running out of steam in terms of repetition and trying to figure out what you are doing.

Dude. What launcher are you talking about? How do you not have the setup file, but you have the launcher for the sims?? Your responses make little sense. How did you install it if you have no setup file? And what launcher are you trying to run? You need to do what the script says, and locate the setup INSTALLER for the sims on your computer when asked to.

Again, because you didnt read, you already failed the install of the sims.

Do what I said, and delete the sims virtual drive, and start again with the installer. If you dont have it, then you are not going to be able to play it, since you cannot install it...... This is just common sense and computer basics.

In Steam you download it from a library of your games and it installs for you.I don't think it includes a setup file like you would find in a dvd rom. I had the sims installed and working but I couldn't get the launcher to run.As the title suggests. I'm not really understanding what we're trying to accomplish by reinstalling it.I think I'll just let you go and figure this out for myself.I don't want to cause you anymore trouble and thank you for the help anyway.Once I do get this figured out I will post here and hopefully help others who are having the same issue.

Its irrelevant, because you werent doing it in PlayOnLinux, as has been stated multiple times.

You need to install the windows version of Steam into PlayOnLinux, using the same method you used earlier to install the sims.

-Open PlayOnLinux

-Click "Install"

-Click "Steam" from the list. If you search it will pop right up in that install box.

-Run that script

Then run Steam FROM WITHIN PlayOnLinux, and install the sims from there.

oh no, did you think I installed it in wine? I ment installed it on PoL. I think I got really confused at one point. Anyway I don't want to cause anymore trouble and I will try to figure this out myself.

Well, how did you get it installed in PoL if you never had an install file? That makes no sense. You would have had to install Steam in PlayOnLinux or had an install file to install it the first time, and NO, you didnt have it installed in PoL the first time around, because you were launching it with the wine command.
