hi guys,

I recently installed SWTOR with playonlinux. Everything went great with just 1 thing, downloading all the updates took around 6 hours with my cable connection.

Now when trying to play the game it takes a huge load of time to load it. It takes around two minutes to get the launcher on my screen. Logging in works fine, but after i hit "play" the real problems starts.

After 5 minutes i see a black screen and nothing else, again after 5 mins a cratchy sound starts. Then after 10 minutes the cratchy sound goes to normal sound and after 10 minutes i see my character.

Doesn't sound like normal to me ;)

I use linux mint 17.1 cinnamon 32bit

Pentium D, E2160 cpu, 4 gb RAM, nvidia GTX 650 i gpu

 

Debug output (this should be in your first post) and which drivers are you running for you video card? You should be running the proprietary drivers if you aren't already.

That looks like it is just the install log. Can you post the running log for that game? Or run it from a terminal and post the output here?

Install the newest version of POL first (4.2.5) from our Download section. Make sure you have the 32-bit versions of your audio libraries and stuff. Also, what is swtor_fix.exe? From what I can see it is so Wine does not need to be patched. If Wine needs a patch to play this game, then I am sure that we either have it, or we can get it built, if that is needed.

That being said, all of the stuff I have heard about these crazy issues with Pulse, I have NEVER experienced. I've installed the 32 bit audio libraries. Game starts and loads normal now, but, I have no sound in the game.

OS sound works fine though.

Check your audio settings in your distro. Or download pavucontrol, which is what I like to use to control audio outputs. Wine is probably trying to play through another output or something. Pulseaudio lets you route audio from programs to different sound devices and vice-versa, so it is probably just trying to play out of a different output. That is my experience, anyway. 

yup, you're right. It was a sound issue.

After playing around with the sound options in Wine, I've managed to solve this. It seems the 5.1 audio settings was the killer. When I've set it to stereo all problems were solved.

All works perfectly now.
