Yes. There is :)

It can give you a good idea of what you have done to get an unlisted application to run. Always a good reference point. Well, that and Kate or gedit or something open on the side to take notes.

But can I use this auto-generated script to install my game later just like the provided scripts in PlayOnLinux?

You can try, but It almost never works. At least not the way I want them to. The ones for POL are made by hand, not auto-generated. Its always worth a try.

ok, then I'm not going to bother for now.
It would be nice if they did work that way, cause I could provide my script along with my tutorials.
Sounds like they are a "base" to start working with scripts.

Thats what I said; they are a reference point. You should just write a script to go with the tutorials. :)

oh, didn't see that...
I might eventually do that.
Otherwise, my tutorials walk them through an existing script or the manual installation.
Whichever worked for me.

Well, if you can get a manual installation working, then you can write a script, so that you dont have to do the manual installation. Thats the point of the scripts and port of what makes POL work. :)

Its not hard. You should have a look at the Documentation. There is a good tutorial on learning to write the scripts.

Trust me; you will have a million more problems and have to troubleshoot a lot more stuff for people that get the install wrong using the tutorials, instead of just writing the script and having it do all of the hard stuff for them.

Here is the link. Also, you can look at the source code for the scripts in the Supported Software section of the site to get an idea of what they require.

You are right...
For some reason I have more success with manual installation than scripts because I've had plenty of provided scripts fail on me.

When I install a new game, I always look for the POL provided script first, then do some research on WineHQ.
If the POL provided script doesn't work, then I do a manual installation.
Most of the time the latter works better, not sure why... maybe its Mint?

But I will start looking at creating scripts for my successful installs and will submit to PlayOnLinux.

Maybe it is Mint, because I run a whole bunch of them from time to time, and for the most part, they work (and if they dont, Im usually missing something or the game has been updated).

Make sure you read the stickies at the top of the Your Creations section of the forum for guidelines and requirements for script submission.
