Hello,

i had very good experience with PoL until now. Everything worked fine. But as i wanted to install a new game with it today i experienced a very strange bug:

The PoL windows are cut off on the bottom.

Everything still works but i can't read the buttons i click like this. I am using Ubuntu Mate Remix 14.10 (with mate of course ;) ) and here is what i found in the playonlinux.cfg (maybe this will help):

Wow, that is pretty strange.  Are you using 4.2.7 PlayOnLinux?
Is it only on that install screen, or every windows PlayOnLinux uses?

Try switching desktop environments to see if it still happens

I was running the pol version from the official ubuntu 14.10 repo. This is 4.2.3.
I updated to 4.2.8 and it was fixed...

sry for the inconvenience...

Not a problem.  I wish Ubuntu could update its repositories for PlayOnLinux

No problem. That is why we have forums. :) Unfortunately, some distros like *buntu lag VERY hard on updating to the most current version. I recommend always installing POL directly from our Download section. At least then you are always for sure going to get the most up-to-date stable release.

I seem to be having a similar problem, and I'm running 4.2.8.

I have a 3200x1600 laptop and a 3840x2160 external monitor.  I'm running Fedora 22 and KDE (Plasma 5).

It's as though POL is getting confused becaused the DPI is so very high (about 235, I think).

I don't seem to be able to make the dialog any bigger, either, so that I can see what's off the bottom of the screen, nor does pressing the TAB key seem to take me to any of the buttons.

Any thoughts here?

I don't use dual monitors for Linux, mostly because I'm testing games in Mint Cinnamon (vanilla)

You could always try turning off one monitor in the Display Settings and see if PlayOnLinux GUI is still messed up

Yeah, actually already tried that.  Same issue.

I really suspect it's related to the high pixel count, because it really looks like POL isn't allowing for the space the text is taking up.

Are you using the newest PlayOnLinux?  Version 4.2.9?

4.2.9 won't fix this issue unfortunately. It will require much work than this. It seems to come from the font scaling

Dang...

Gizmo - you can try messing with Universal Access in the Fedora Control Panel

You can also try installing gnome-tweak-tool

Not using Gnome, I'm using KDE.

I can reset my font sizes, but then I'll have to use a microscope to see my screen.

Quentin,

If there is something I can do to help out as far as testing or whatnot, I'm willing.

Yeah, I understand the screen problem and font problem.  Guess PlayOnLinux isn't made for such a high resolution screen and large fonts.

I've written a lot of Windows code over the years, and up until Windows 7 (or maybe Vista) one of the things that Windows consistently handled very badly was font scaling.  In particular (at least with MFC) scaling the size of a dialog so that it looked right on hi-res screens was a real PITA.  Even with Windows 7, it's my understanding that it's still very much a work in progress.  I don't know about newer versions, as I do pretty much everthing in Linux these days.

I have no idea how it works on Linux but I suspect it's somewhat non-trivial, given how many applications have such a hard time getting it right.

If you ever figure it out with PlayOnLinux, can you post your success/findings here?

PlayOnLinux was designed about 8 years ago. We were not aware at all about HDPI screens at this time. We're trying to solve that out with PlayOnLinux 5.

I've had this issue for a while in Arch Linux. Running PlayOnLinux 4.2.9 on Gnome 3.18 (Arch Linux x86_64). No HDPI screen. Just a standard 1920x1080 monitor.
