How to run two apps out of the same drive?

I have two versions of age of empires. I want to play both out of the same installation, all the files are there. One is the Steam HD edition, and the other is an exe create by Compatibility Patch + Userpatch 1.5... basically i need hd edition to play this

 

I know I could just copy the folder and create a second virtual drive, but then I'd have an additional 8 gb used on my hard drive. That would suck.
