I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 x64 and tried the binary PlayOnLinux_4.2.12.tar.gz but I still get verion 4.2.11 instead, after removal and paying closer attention I install 12, and the package installer forwards to 11. so I figured ok repos is for trusty, not xenial but I'll try anyway, I install it and again it's 11 not 12. and before anybody asks, YES I purged the prior install first.

That is really strange.  I just download the .deb file from the website here:

https://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html

Then install it with a double-click.  Mint has an older version in the package manager, so I don't install it that way.
