I tried following every guide I can find online to get it to play. I can run it on this PC with Windows Vista, but I can't get any of the linux guides to make it run. Every time I try I get a directX error, but it's in another language so I can't read it.

I'd really appreciate it if someone made a script for it.

Hello cynthiaroses,

I never played this game but I'll try to get it to work for me and if I succeed, then I'll write a script for Perfect World International.

Bye

P.S: You should always start a topic by saying some kind of "Hello", it's not so hard and it'll cause your topic to more likely get an answer. :)

Okay, thanks Ghost. I'll remember that. Also is there a way to contact you if you should get it to work? =3

Here's the game in question: http://pwi.perfectworld.com/

Yes, you can contact me either via private message or via e-mail (I displays one of my e-mail addresses on my profile)

And don't worry, I figured out where to get the game ;-) I just have to wait about two days before being able to download it 'cause the current Internet connection I use is too slow (in too days I'll be back at home with an Internet connection that doesn't date from middle age :D )

Thanks very much Ghost.

I don't enjoy having to switch back to the ever RAM hungry Windows Vista every time I want to play, so you're a life saver. =3

So I installed the game today, no problem (except the update of the client that took about 5 hours °_° thanks to the only update server, in Korea I guess).
I also installed the Microsoft fonts to make the texts more readable.
But for the moment, I can't test the in-game behavior because my account isn't yet activated.
So while waiting for my confirmation e-mail, I'm going to sleep !

So long

Yeah, the updater works fine for me too, it's when I try to start the game itself that I have the problems.

Hi guys !

I join this topic because I have the in-game problem too. After the update (that works fine but is very long), I can connect, create a character, but the game won't run after that.

I'll try to help you GoK to help us ^^

Hello again,

My account is now activated and I can connect to a game server.
I had no problem to create a character nor to play a little bit the game (except that I don't know how to change the keys to move forward, backward, on the left, on the right, etc.).

Here is my configuration:
Version of Wine : 1.1.22
Distribution : Linux Mint
Version of the distribution : 7 (Gloria), based on Ubuntu 9.04
Graphic card : NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Driver of the graphic card : Proprietary 180.44

What issues have you experienced?

Bye

I have the most recent version of Wine (Development version)

I am running on Linux Ubuntu 9.04

My real problem is DirectX. Everytime I run the game, I get a DirectX error, perhaps it's just installed or configured wrong. Perhaps a step by step guide on installing DirectX PROPERLY would do me a world of good.

Does it help to install the latest version of DirectX with the "DirectX9: June 2008 patch" script (in Other)?

My problem is that I get a directX error. I'm pretty sure that it's because I have DirectX either not installed properly or configured properly, or something like that. What I REALLY need is someone to have a guide for users who aren't good with that terminal stuff like me on how DirectX should be configured, and what it should look like on my options screen when I'm done.

A script that sets Perfect World up for me would be nice too.

That's what I'm doing, I've started writing a PlayOnLinux script which installs PWI then configure it automatically.

I was asking you about DirectX 9 to know if I must add a part in the script to install it automatically ('cause it wasn't necessary for me).
But nevermind, I'll finish the script, post it in the forum, you'll test it and then I'll modify it if necessary.

Yeah, I need DirectX 9 set up and configured for me, as I'm not entirely sure as to what configuration it needs. Thank you very much.

Hi,

The first version of the script is available in this topic.

To try is, download the file given in the topic then run POL in a terminal with the following command: playonlinux And go to Tools > Run a non-official script, to run the Perfect World International script.
Thus, if there is an error, you can paste in the forum what the script outputted in the terminal.

Is there a way to run it without installing it again, since I have it on my windows partition? =3

Also it says I'm missing the program "unrar" I checked the "add programs" menu and didn't see it. Where could I get that program?

It may be possible to use the files from a windows installation but it can't be done in an automated way so it would be way more simpler for you to install it again, sorry

Concerning unrar (the script requires the non-free version so make sure to install unrar and not unrar-free), it is available in the multiverse category of the Ubuntu repository.
It should looks like this in Synaptic: screenshot

Well now that works, but every time I try to install it, it says the client got corrupted. >.<

Then it's probably that your download is corrupted :p
Did you try to download it (by your self or with the script) several times?
If no, try again, you maybe just had a bad luck.
If yes, try to download the split version so there will be less risks of corruption.

If even after trying this, it keeps telling you that it's corrupted, then I'll edit my script to fix that.
