WineHQ test submission regected?

I submit test results to WineHQ every time I get a PC Game to work in PlayOnLinux.
Usually they accept it, but I just got a "regection" because I was using PlayOnLinux instead of strictly Wine.

Reason given - Do not submit test reports for third party Wine wrappers such as PlayOnLinux, Wineskin, etc. Please retest in plain Wine and resubmit. We appreciate your help in making the Application Database better for all users.

What is the deal?
First, they don't know that I'm using PlayOnLinux for all of my tests
Second, Wine is a big part to running games in PlayOnLinux

I'm just trying to help the Linux gaming community and they regect a game that I successfully ran with Wine in PlayOnLinux.
Hell, I will never go back to plain Wine when PlayOnLinux makes it so EASY!
Does anyone still use plain Wine anymore after using PlayOnLinux?

Anyways, I guess from now on I won't mention PlayOnLinux.
Their form doesn't have a "third party Wine wrapper" text box.  Maybe they should?

A lot of test submissions are really old, so I wanted to update that the game does run.
Kinda sucks because now they are hurting themselves and what they are all about.

Well, their site is for JUST wine. Not POL. Even though POL relies on wine. it implements it differently than just Vanilla Wine.

The main point of the Wine project, is eventually to not have to use anything 3rd party, and have everything install on one virtual drive, just like a regular windows machine, with full 100% compatibility and no need for outside programs to install dependencies....

This would be in a perfect world, but its just not at that point yet.

So, I can see why they would do that, but whats odd, is that I see references to WineTricks through the AppDB, so, yeah. Im not sure. You could always hit up someone there via email and just inquire into it.

I wish Wine could do-it-all but who knows when that would happen.
All I know is, my game worked and I wanted to tell the world.... WineHQ is the best place to post my success and they turned me down.

What if I posted success with Crossover? Would they regect me too?

Well, considering you are not running crossover, and they run a proprietary system that uses Wine as its base, then yeah. They probably would.

Again, I would just ask them why it got turned down, considering it worked. As for crossover, I wouldnt really bother, because what something takes to run on Vanilla Wine or POL, may not even be needed or wanted on Crossover.

Agreed. I tried Crossover when they were giving it out for free.
Honestly, I wasn't impressed...
its not all that different from PlayOnLinux except most people have to pay for it.

I'm not sure if you are one of the developers for PlayOnLinux, but I thank all of you for spending so much time helping us to play our PC Games in Linux.
I will be working on testing games for a long time (because I have a lot of game) and I will continue devoting my time to bring more people to Linux gaming.

I donate some money yesterday.

It was ok for certain things, but the pricetag, and open-ness of POL attracted me here... Especially when my stuff actually started working. haha

Ive made some scripts, but am far from a dev stature. I just joined recently, so thank Quentin and and all of the others. They are the ones that make most of this possible, plus contributors like yourself.

Keep it up, sir! :)
