Did you install this manually create a virtual drive and install Origin yourself, or did you use the install script from POL? There are a few dependencies missing.

I have attempted to install this viz PlayOnLinux, not manually via wine.

I just downlaoded OriginThinSetup.exe and the demo 21015 from theiw website.

As for POL i don;'t even know what ti stand for :-)

Also i ahve installed winetricks and

DirectX9 along with VC6SP6 missing components still no luck when it ry to play it via PlayOnLinux

Ok, so you don't need winetricks. What I meant by manual install is did you choose Origin from the PlayOnLinux Install window, or did you choose the PlayOnLinux option to "Install an unlisted program"? With PlayOnLinux, "manual install" does not mean with Wine. It means installing a program in a manner that does not use the Install window's items.

I don't see it listed, so there is not a script for it, so it was a manual install. Use POL to install stuff like that, not winetricks. Winetricks is needed sometimes, but this is not the case here. In PlayOnLinux -> Configure -> select origin virtual drive -> Install Components tab, you will find what you are looking for. You should delete that virtual drive and create a new virtual drive, install d3dx9 (for directx9). How are you sure that VC6SP6 is missing? Winetricks does not interface with POL. Like, at all. You have to specifically tell it which WINEPREFIX you want to run it in. But, first question, is what is telling you that those are missing? I see a MSVCRT error, but how do you know which version? We have quite a few, so I would try to install vcrun from the Install Components tab first. It is always better, if you can, to use POL's built-in functions for components.

I tried to make an unlisted setup because i searched for origin and doesnt appear anywhere on the list.

Unfortunately this video i found says originthinsetup doesnt work.

here it is

i must find OriginSetup and try.

Should i unsinstall winetricks or leave it as it is?

any ideas as to ehere iam going to find OriginSetup?

why isnt it listed in pols main widnows?

Install msxml into the virtual drive, and make sure that you have libxml (the 32 bit version) installed in your system.

Hello,

i installed msxml3 and lib32-libxml2 and Origin manages to start. i logen in with a new accoutn and all went lokmuntil i tried to download via origin th fifa15 demo and i couldnt becaus eit has only a 64bit version which it couldn't been selected.

So i delted the drive and created a new virtual drive 64bit this time as Windows 8 paltform.

Winxp deosnt support 64bit right?

now the error is:

This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "windows".

i have recreated the virtual drive to xp 64bit this time and origin worked.

this time i click on downlaod free games & demos and try to install via origin the fifa15 demo

after 15 mins it give a red mark popup but the font is like black squared and i dotn understand what it says so i dont know why it failed to dowenlaod the demo.

can you help?

also why winxp 64bit vm manages to work and win8 vm ddint?

Ronin DUSETTE

First, these are not VM's (virtual machines). They are much different than a vm. That being said; wine 64 bit is just buggy. 32-bit has the most support, components, tests, etc.. 64 bit is still not really rock-solid, and there are not a lot of dependencies that can be installed easily (some don't even have 64 bit scripts... yet).

I would recommend you check with http://appdb.winehq.org and just keep watching for updates on this. It is a new game, so it may take time to figure out a solution, but between winehq, here, and http://gamersonlinux.com , and quite a few other Wine-enthusiast sites, you will start seeing information pouring in.

Unfortunately, if it is 64-bit only, then you are pretty much "up the creek", so to speak.

Well, there was a 64 bit release, but let us rewind a bit. If this game  is 64-bit only, then it would not be a WinXP compatible game, as WinXP 64-bit was... well... if you wanted 64-bit Windows support then you went to Vista and then (thankfully) Windows 7, which all support 64 bit architecture natively. You might want to try going to the Wine configuration in PlayOnLinux  for that virtual drive, and switch it to Windows Vista or 7. That is probably what it is using as it's deciding factor on whether or not it wants to run on there. That is an assumption, for sure, but better than nothing. haha.

I just made the configuration changes you suggested but still when the virtual drive tried to run:

That makes no sense. That is a Linux issue, not a virtual drive issue. Your virtual drive is probably messed up from using winetricks or something. Either way, you need to delete the virtual drive and try again.

To be honest, you are probably going to need to wait for 64 bit support to get better for Wine. I don't anticipate this working at all.

still same error. wait 64bit support regarding what exactly?

Ronin DUSETTE Thursday 11 September 2014 at 20:26
Ronin DUSETTE

This game is only available in a 64-bit version. Wine (and by default, POL) does not have very mature 64-bit support. You are likely not going to get this game running until Wine (and the installers for components like directx and IE) are stable under 64-bit. If you are going to put it into a virtual drive, then you need to create a 64 bit virtual drive and install it in there, but again, it is likely not going to work. You will have to play this game on Windows for the time being.

Like I said, you are going to need to use Windows for the time being, because 64 bit wine is likely not going to work. Most of the component installers don't install on 64 bit virtual drives. Unfortunately, that is just the way it is at this point.
