Trying to install WoW I downloaded the game client install .exe file and on POL I selected the "Use a setup file in your computer" option and selected the downloaded .exe. After a short while POL comes back with an error reading

"Error in POL_Shortcut
Binary not found: WoW.exe"

Are you using Battle.net?
World of Warcraft already has an installer, so you might want to try that first.  Just launch PlayOnLinux, click Install and search for Word of Warcraft

The POL game list has World of Warcraft, World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King, and World of Warcraft The Burning Crusade. I am selecting just the normal "World of Warcraft" and shortly after that it wants me to "Please choose an installation method" where I can either select CD, DVD or setup file. I've tried both the battle.net app exe as well as the world of warcraft .exe you can download from battle.net, though I think they're the same as they both just install battle.net (on windows).

So I have to pick an option one way or the other. POL does not seem to have a built in installer.

Yes, this is part of the script, you still have to install the game or client but the script will handle all the packages, shortcuts, virtual drive and wine configuration for you.

So when it gets to Browse, can you navigate to the Wow.exe or Battle.net.exe?

Will it begin installing it?

I have a feeling the PlayOnLinux script is broken

Try this:

  1. Download the Battle.net Client:  http://us.battle.net/en/app/
  2. Launch PlayOnLinux
  3. Click Tools
  4. Wine Manager
  5. Download Wine 1.8
  6. Close Wine Manager
  7. Back to PlayOnLinux
  8. Click Install
  9. Click Install a non-listed program
  10. New virtual drive
  11. Name it:  worldofwarcraft
  12. check all three options
  13. Select Wine 1.8
  14. 32-bit windows installation
  15. Wine configuration - Windows XP
  16. Wine configuration - Graphics Tab - Automatically cpature mouse
  17. Wine configuration - Graphics Tab - Emulate virtual desktop
  18. Wine configuration - Graphics Tab - Desktop size:  1024x768
  19. Packages - Check core fonts
  20. Packages - Check d3dx9
  21. Packages - Check vcrun2005
  22. Packages - Check tahoma
  23. Click Browse
  24. Select Battle.net-Setup.exe
  25. Follow installation instructions
  26. Don't login when its done
  27. Exit Battle.net
  28. Create PlayOnLinux Shortcut to Battle.net launcher
  29. Launch Battle.net from PlayOnLinux
  30. Start Downloading World of Warcraft
  31. Play

Remember any time you get crashing or bugs, launch the Battle.net Launcher with "Debug" instead of "Run" and you will see the errors.

Heyo thanks for the great step by step guide!

Initially, the game worked great, then after a few days the launcher would not load now and can't seem to figure out how to get past that error. Not trying to resurrect an old post but this is what i followed.
