Is playonlinux just a scam?

playonlinux gives the appearance of being a scam. Not a money-stealing scam, just some form of practical joke.

Despite many, many net entries and blogs saying that POL makes it easy to install and run non-Linux stuff, such is not the case.

No matter how many times one tries to install either Photoshop CS4 or CS6 from the list of 'supported' programmes (via 'install' or via manual install), one ALWAYS hits the same wall - 'can't find the .exe file. Did you install itin the default location?".

It simply does not work. It's a fiction.

I haven't tried any of those, but I think that's most probably not going to work. Currently I am playing StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft II thanks to PlayOnLinux, so its not a scam, but I think you need to provide the install software. I had paid for those, so no problem for me. All I had to do was follow some instructions (because I needed to get the latest wine-staging version which at that moment was 2.17 or so I think)

Remember that PlayOnLinux relies on Wine to work.
Here's the Wine status page for photoshop

It's just silver, not even gold so I would not expect much. I would rather use any of the fine open source image editors available.
You can search for alternatives here:

I can mention some (some may fit more or less or be more specialized in a certain area) :

GIMP
Inkscape (good for vector graphics)
Krita
Mypaint

Darktable

Pinta

If you still want to use Photoshop you can try installing it, but I guess you will have to search the correct exe within the virtual windows drive and launch it to be able to use it. (open the configuration window, go to the miscellaneous tab and press the "run exe file in this virtual drive" )
I guess that should work.

You could also try to use Photoshop in Virtualbox on Windows. It should run very well that way.

It's about script writer. Who ever wrote that POL install script didn't care anymore, so you have the same error. PlayonLinux is perfect for managing Wine bottles easier without bash. Even someone has no bash knowledge can probably use it. If script doesn't work, just install it yourself. Script is just automation, DIY for win :)
