Fallout 3 adapt steam version - ubuntu 9.04 doesn't seem to work

system info:
linux mint 32b 7 (aka ubuntu 9.04) I've tried this in ubuntu 9.04 64b and it hasn't worked either
kernel 2.6.28-11
nvidia geforce go 7950 gtx (512mb ram)
driver nvidia 180.44

I've been mucking with this for the past couple days with no solution.

I have configured the audio in each of the prefixes before trying to launch the game, I've tried both alsa and oss, pulse audio is disabled/uninstalled on my systems.

-installed steam in POL
-downloaded fallout 3 via steam
-checked the steam prefix and the game is in there.
-POL install game > Fallout 3 > Adapt Steam Version

It creates the prefixes using 1.1-26-fallout 3 patched installs directx xlive .net vb5 etc. and applies game patches.

Then nothing when executing the launchers.

commandline: playonlinux --run "FalloutLauncher" or "Fallout 3" returns nothing

user@machine ~ $ playonlinux --run "Fallout 3"
PlayOnLinux v3.6

Checking python :                     [ Ok ]
user@machine ~ $

checking installed configs yeilds:

#!/bin/bash
PATH="/home/user/.PlayOnLinux/WineVersions/1.1.26-Fallout3/usr/bin/:$PATH"
export WINEPREFIX="/home/user/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Fallout3"
export WINEDEBUG="-all"
cd "/home/user/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Steam/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/fallout 3"
wine "Fallout3.exe" $@

This looks correct to me at least.

sh "script" from the console produces nothing as well.

All the scripts seem fine. Interestingly trying to launch the game from within steam or using system wine directly gets me futher than the "adapt steam" prefixes have. Perhaps there is something wrong with the prefix generation

Setting wine for the steam prefix to 1.1.26-Fallout3 then launching the game from steam hasen't worked as well. (I'd perfer not to use this method for troubleshooting)

The best results I've had so far is doing my own directx, vcrun2005/sp1, dotnet20 via winetricks using the system wine then using that system wine for steam (aka none of the POL generated prefixes) I can get to start a new game then while loading the game it crashes.

Do any ubuntu 9.04 users have experience getting this to run successfully? I'm posting this here also to raise awareness the POL adapt steam fallout 3 scripts/prefixes/wine 1.1.26-fallout3 might be borked since they can't even bring up a window for me vs running through steam or using system wine.

For anybody who might be interested. I started playing around with the wine versions again on this fresh install of Mint. The system 1.0.1 default version of wine (system) seems to at least launch the game via the POL scripts. This makes me think it's an issue with the POL wine 1.1.26-Fallout3,

To confirm this I'm going to compile a d3d patched version of 1.1.27. I tried a compiled 1.1.26 on my 64b os but that could have failed due to sound or 64b issues. This will be 32b ubuntu w/o pulse audio.

II'll try to compare this vs the POL 1.1.26-Fallout3 wine version. Hopefully it works.

This makes me think it's an issue with the POL wine 1.1.26-Fallout3,

I checked that and 1.1.26-Fallout3 isn't the problem. Please try to set default wine version to system in POL
