About wine always downloading gecko with a new wineprefix

And the solution for it

So It seems there is a solution about wine always downloading gecko (even if you previously downloaded it) when a new wine prefix is created. This could be not much of a problem for high speed broad band internet users, but for the rest of us is a PITA :-°

So here you go:
http://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko

BTW, it would be nice if POL devs could some day implement a way of doing this automatically. Just a suggestion of course.

Have a nice day.

Edit 1: When you create new wineprefix with POL the system wine version is used by default, so if you have not installed it, wine will ask you to install gecko anyway even if you plan to use another wine version for the newly created prefix... Maybe POL should ask for a wine version by the time you create a wineprefix? so you are not forced to download gecko needlessly if your system wine version doesn't have/need it.

Hi,

We already talked about that, it's impossible for us to make clean implementation without modifying wine builds, and we don't want to if it's not absolutely mandatory.

If you want to avoid wine downloading gecko, all you have to do is copy gecko setups to /usr/share/wine/gecko/, it's the default path where wine look before trying to download it.

Dimesio (WineHQ forum) has asked us to add gecko into our winebuild.

So it will be planed for the next winebuilds I think. No updates needed, it's a winebuild problem
