I'm running Ubuntu Precise, 64 bit. Dell XPS-8300 desktop. Using Unity.
I have an Nvidia GT 530 with 1G RAM on board.
System has 6 G RAM.
CPU is core i5-2400.
I'm brand new to PlayonLinux. And to this forum.
I've just installed PlayonLinux (version 4.0.14-1) via Synaptic. This also auto-installed WINE version 1.5.5. Then I installed (vanilla) Oblivion from my CD (version 1.1.425 is now installed) This process also auto-installed WINE version 1.3.29.
I guess the older game requires the older version of WINE...?
The game seemed to install OK. I didn't actually try to play. (I only looked at the opening sequence up to the character creation screen.)
I wanted to patch it as I remembered doing on Windows a while back. I'm having some problems applying the 1.2.0416 patch. I see a couple of errors:
"Patch Warning: missing or invalid registry/INI entry".
After clicking OK, I see:
"Patch warning: Old file does not exist". After a 2nd OK, I get:
"Patch error". And it closes. Unpatched.
I'm not sure what might be "missing" or "invalid" OR what "old file" refers to. I'd be appreciative for any suggestions as to how I might fix this.
2. Click on "The Elder Scrolls 4 - Oblivion" and then "Configure" in the right hand pane.
3. In the dialog that opens click on the "Miscellaneous" tab and then the "Run a .exe file in this virtual drive".
4. A file selection dialog will open. On the left hand side click on your user directory and then double click on "PlayOnLinux's virtual drives" in the main pane. This is assuming you placed the patch file in the game directory inside the Oblivion wine prefix like I did.
5. Keep drilling down to the location of the patch file, select it and click on "Open".
