Hello Everyone, i was recently looking to purchase a chromebook, however the only way a chromebook would be viable for my school is if i had windows office suite, so instead of buying an expensive windows laptop, i have the option of buying a chromebook for $160, (The Samsung with the ARM processor), i watched a video recently installing Ubuntu on a Chromebook (Due to the ARM processor architecture not being able to install windows), 


I know this version of ubuntu runs Playon, however i was wondering if anyone had experience using playon on a chromebook device in order to install Windows Office Suite, i was curious if it would work and what version of office would work if i decided to try this, i know i don't have a lot of technical details in this post, i am fairly new to linux although not computers, but i want to see if it is possible before i purchase a chromebook, any help would be appreciated. 

edit: i talked to my stats professor about using libre, i downloaded it and showed it to her, she says it is a little different from excel but i might be able to use it? are there any real differences, (this might be an easier alternative than installing excel)

You can totally use libreoffice. You don't need office. You can export your spreadsheets to MS format.

It is different, but the UI for Office wasnt really anything special. Things are a little different, but Im sure that you will find most, if not all of the features in either that or OpenOffice. I chose libreoffice for political reasons. haha

Libreoffice should be good as long as the class doesn't require VBA macros.

I know this is an old thread but I am new to this forum. I am successfully using Office 2007 on POL and Crouton, on an Asus C300 Chromebook. Libre Office is fine but if you are working with others using MS Office, 95% or even 99% compatibility is never enough.  I do however have one query and will start a new thread on that.
