I don't know if that will work, but it wouldn't hurt to attempt it. You could always look at the script and see what dependencies and Wine version it uses, and simply do a manual install based on what the script is doing, but in a different, manually-created virtual drive.

Agreed.  I've never re-named a virtual drive, but it should be as easy as rename and re-create shortcuts

@ Ronin DUSETTE

No need to say sorry or to worry in this case.

I know exactly were the line between legal and illegal is.

I also know that play on Linux is not the problem, its the damn copy protection, which sadly only bother people who bought the game.

Same shit with movie dvd 's. Atleast in my country, you will be bothered with a copyright notice, and sometimes even with unskippable previews of other movies.

The entertainment industry should adobt to the new world ( internet ) instead of punishing custummers.

I'll check my topc later, to see what the best way is, to install stalker twice. ( if possible)

And have a look at the manual install.

I just did a quick test. I renamed the virtual drive. I think that works.

But the game does not start anymore. Playonlinux tells me the virtual drive does not exist anymore.

That makes sense, but I do have a question. What do you guys mean by a manual install ?

Through google I found this topic.

https://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-12049.html

Is that not exactly what I need to do ?

A manual install is just creating a virtual drive and doing everything manually, instead of using a game or apps install script.

Hi guys

I managed to install the game manual.

Using latest wine version, and using this guide: http://www.gamersonlinux.com/forum/threads/stalker-call-of-pripyat-guide.321/

I picked windows XP and installed service pack 2.

I could not find POL_Install_xaudio

And there were some minor other minor difference from the guide, but !!!!

I got the game installed, put in cd key, and when I launched the game, it did not as before complained about not being able to find the dvd.

There were some issues though. The keyboard did not work.(mouse does work)

So I had to quit the game by using Ctrl Ecp. ( maybe on other distro's too) but atleast on openSUSE this bring up the ( as windows calls it) the task manager.

One other issue, after this the resulution of my desktop was changed, and rebooting did not solve this.

I had to set the desktop resolution manual.

To me it seems the script needs some updating, maybe only needing a newer wine version?

When I used the script the keyboard was working ( but not the numpad) but as I told before, it kept complaining about the dvd.

So I think this is good news, I got the game almost working(besides the keyboard) without a no cd hack this time.

If anyone knows how to fix this keyboard issue ?

I have seen keyboard issues in the past. Go to Wine Configuration, make sure to check virtual desktop.

Set the resolution to 1024x768 which will appear "windowed" but when you get in-game, set the resolution to match your Linux desktop and it will appear full-screen.

If the keyboard mouse still do not work, try installing the package:  xinput

I went into the wine settings, and checked emulate virtual desktop.

That fixed the keyboard not working part.

(I already had x input installed)

It did however complain again about not being able to find the dvd.

I am 99% sure that has to do with openSUSE though.

When I used dolphin ( file browser) and went to the dvd, it seems wine auto added the link to the dvd.

So unless I use the file browser to go the the dvd, wine can't find it.

I did make some progress though. When I used the script, it would not even run onces.

Maybe its time to try Ubuntu or Mint?

I've rarely encountered CD ROM problems wth Wine in Mint.
