Cannot play sound from other apps!

Hello.

After I start a game in PlayOnLinux, if I try at the same time to launch applications like Parole Media Player (to play some of my music files), I cannot hear any sound from the latter. If I start media players first and then PlayOnLinux, the media players play their sound files right, but I get no sound in the game.

This does not happen in the system Wine (the one I installed before PlayOnLinux).

I have PlayOnLinux 4.2.5 and Xubuntu 15.04

I had Ubuntu 14.04 before and this problem never happened.

I appreciate any helpful tip, and also many thanks for making PlayOnLinux! :)

That likely because plain Wine does not specifically support PulseAudio

Sorry, I'm kind of newbie to these things. Maybe I wasn't very clear before?

My problem is not with the games' sound in PlayOnLinux when playing games. That works fine. It is when trying to play some other sound file in any media player at the same time that PlayOnlinux is running--that doesn't work. Or that PlayOnLinux has no sound if it is started after a media player is already running.

What can be done? What are the steps to solve this?

Thanks for understanding.

This is exactly the kind of symptoms you'd expect from the lack of PulseAudio support, either Wine grabs the audio driver directly, preventing the PulseAudio server from accessing it, or PulseAudio grabs the audio driver from itself, preventing Wine from using it.

You can try a Wine version with PulseAudio support, either "System" one (probably patched), or wine-staging patched ones (*-staging) which also are PulseAudio patched as far as I understand; Or other solutions like enabling mixing in ALSA instead of going thru PulseAudio...
