GNU and other open source project (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recursive_acronym).
Did you use winecfg to change the windows version to 98 ? (configuration panel or during installation)

Did you use winecfg to change the windows version to 98 ? (configuration panel or during installation) been there - did that (Win95 that the game was made for, and Win98)

OK - so the game would be running like crap on linux anyway when not using 3DFx....Soooooooooooooooooooo
Uninstalled it and will continue to use my Windows 98 with my awesome Voodoo 5500 VidCard to run this fantastic game.
...this was just an experiment anyway - exploring linux and gaming (turns out even with POL and other WINdowsEmulator addons the install is a nightmare, running unstable, and often ends in not running at all after all the grief.)
CONCLUSION: use Win98 for CD games - WinXP for DVD gaames - online gaming just feel pity for the industry...
