Hi folks. Would it be possible to add a search feature in the forums, so that a reader can search for answers to their questions, instead of starting a new topic, and possibly duplicating an existing topic?

sounds simplistic but it's just as good as a search feature on the forum, trust me, I've used it countless times

Marieuh's right, it works well. (And this the only solution currently because the research is a long time requested feature but it's still not available).

And since geeks are lazy, here's a convenient solution to search the POL forum with google: http://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-1889-You_want_to_search_try_this.html (a Firefox search engine)
