Hi,
I know the forums are flooded by The Sims 3 issue reports, so sorry about this post... but I didn't find a similar error here...

First I used my systems wine and tried installing by running the Sims3Setup.exe. This worked however the game didn't so i checked wineDB for user reports and so decided to try POL.

The script runs flawlessly but when the setup should be executed i get an VC++ Debug error instead: "D:\\Sims3Setup.exe abnormal program termination"
the commandline says:
"err:wineboot:pendingRename couldn't get file attributes (2)"

I'm not sure but maybe "D:" isn't mounted correctly?

I'm using ubuntu 9.04
got a pentium dual core
gforce 9300
4GB ram

Please write in steps what you did to install The Sims 3.

1. Mounted the Disc
2. Started POL
3. Ran the Script for Sims 3 Installation
3.a Choosed patched version of wine (1.1.24 for the sims)
3.b Choosed the disk mountpoint

Now normaly the installer should start, but instead i get the described error. Thats pretty weird because running "wine /cdrom/Sims3Setup.exe" actually works...

If it works in plain wine then it should work in POL. Please try to delete ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/TheSims3 and start installation again.

I already tried that, but I still get the error.

Could you post what is the output from terminal when you trying to install The Sims 3 with help of POL?

Hmm... I don't see anything unusual.

3.b Choosed the disk mountpoint

Now normaly the installer should start, but instead i get the described error.

First installer installs Gecko and then .NET Framework 2.0 and at the end The Sims 3 installation begins.
Have you seen these two components installing? it takes some time until .NET Framework 2.0 installation finishes.
Could you also post image of this error showing?
BTW. where is your cdrom mounted?
