Hello

I am running Fedora 20. I installed playonlinux via the website (added repo and yum install playonlinux). I got steam installed fine using wine 1.7.9. Dead Island and Valdis Story installed in steam ok as well.

Everything works except audio for all three. In steam none of the video has sound. VS and DI play fine, but no sound.

To try and fix dead island installed "cd Steam/SteamApps/common/Dead Island/Redist/DirectX wine DXSETUP.exe" via this tip. I've also went into the wine settings (via playonlinux) and changed it to windows 7, changed default audio output to ALC898.

Anyone have a suggestions? Thanks

This assumes plain Wine use, so it will have updated ~/.wine/ and not PlayOnLinux virtual drives. With PlayOnLinux there's several way to do this, say
Configure button > (select virtual drive) > Miscellaneous tab > Run an .exe in this virtual drive
and then hunt DXSETUP EXE down directories.
Not saying anything about the effectiveness of the tip, I don't know.

Anyone have a suggestions? Thanks

Try (temporarily) disabling PulseAudio:

Thanks for the response. Although the link you provided did not solve my issue, it did guide me in the right direction. It does seem to be an issue alsa audio. Below is the error I get when when launching playonlinux via the terminal then opening steam.

ALSA lib dlmisc.c:252:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
ALSA lib dlmisc.c:252:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so

I have found a partial workaround. PlayonLinux-->steam-->configure-->Wine Tab-->Configure Wine-->Audio Tab. Choosing the output device to my usb headset will allow me to hear the games audio. That said, anything that tries to use my ALC898 audio chipset will break my games audio. Foudn that out when I got a skype call in mid-game.

Note: I have the same issue with all my wine steam games.

Thanks again for the help.

I didn't have sound and the same error. I'm running opensuse 31.1 64bit.
I don't know how I fixed the sound. It suddenly worked after I opened KMix.

The error disappeared after i installed the 32-bit versions of alsa-plugin and alsa-plugin-pulse.

Hopes it helps.
