Just got Monkey Island Special Edition working perfectly yesterday with over 7 hours of gameplay testing.

Lets get down to business

Distribution : Xubuntu 13.04
POL Version : 4.2.1
Wine Version : 1.5.x
Wine OS Emulation : Windows 2000(For proper sound)
Required to be installed : directx9 vcrun2005 vcrun2008

Tested : Fullscreen gameplay  for 7 hours
Not Tested : Windowed mode gameplay

There are very minor issues which do not affect gameplay. Switching to classic graphics will give you a border which looks glitchy.

Excellent. You should try your hand at writing a script for it. :)

Awesome! Are you playing the Steam version?
The Steam version is the only one I have...
Sad that you have to run it in Windows 2000 mode for sound.

on WineHQ there are a few posts about not using pulseaudio and OSS sound driver failing.
