1. Install WoT manual or using the install script.
2. Create 64bit virtual drive
3. Install only d3dx9_36 in the 64bit-drive
4. move C:/games to your 64bit-drive
5. use wine 1.7.16 amd64
6. start WorldOfTanks.exe, not the launcher.

For updates, move games back to the 32bit-drive, run the launcher, move it back.

(64 bit because WOT can easyly alloc >2GB RAM)

Edit: 1.5.27-needforspeed amd64 seems to generate more FPS.

I was able to run it in 32-bit virtual drive with Wine 1.7.19 and it updated fine via the Launcher.

I wonder if you could just create some links to the 32-bit virtual drive and then make separate shortcuts?
One for updating and one for launching the game?

Yes, it is. On high graphics settings, the game aquires >2GB RAM after a few rounds which is not possible when running in a 32bit vdrive.

I've tried that - it didn't work for me. But as long as both virtual drives are on the same physical drive, the filesystem only changes the location URL which takes <1s - even when the folder has several GB (because there's nothing to copy between disks)

I also used 1.7.19 for wot9.0 - it never crashed, even with tons of mods.

But 1.7.19 stopped working with wot 9.1 (crash at start), so i have to use 1.7.16 which crashes sometimes when you use many mods.

I didn't realize you had mods installed as well.  Pretty cool.  I'm actually writing up a PlayOnLinux guide to installing World of Tanks.

I have a GeForce 550 Ti and it runs ok, but it can slow down here and there.  I wonder if I use the 64-bit Virtual Drive and 64-bit version of Wine, if that will help?

I tried CSMT versions of Wine and didn't know I had to enable CSMT in the registry.  So it didn't work.  I'll have to try again.

Nope, haven't tried CSMT yet because Standard 1.6.2 runs so well.
I would have to use it on games like Crysis or Alan Wake because they both had a difficult time with frame rates.

How many fps do you have on

* what graphics settings

* what hardware?

I'm not even testing World of Tanks at this time.  It actually ran fine on Mint 17.  so I'm not having issues.
