Hello, I see that Starcraft II has been marked as Platinum, but when I try to install (Start POL > Install > Starcraft II Wing of Liberty > use installer > etc..) I get to the point where it says "Start Install" to install the game(after battle.net has been installed), then this pops up and the installer is frozen, needing to be force closed.. pic of popup: http://tinypic.com/r/2dj9wt0/8

Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.1

MSI GT70 Dominator-895 specs: http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=454

Help appreciated.. thanks.

I have Hybrid Graphics with Bumblebee installed, I tried 'optirun playonlinux' and that did not help to install..

Are you using the provided script from PlayOnLInux?

I don't have a lot of experience with Bumblebee or Optirun, but I've heard it can be a complete pain trying to set one video chip as the primary to run games.

I'm using the install through POL GUI. Install > Search Starcraft > Select Starcraft II Wings of Liberty.

I'm trying to do the install via battle.net installer.

Wine gives this error as well: http://i58.tinypic.com/2v7yl5i.png

Not sure about that error, Wine crashes a lot for different things.

Can you play any other games with PlayOnLinux?

Yes, I can play League of Legends.

Great, so that means you have the correct 32-bit libraries and video drivers installed.
There is a chance the script is using an older version of Wine that requires "scope ptrace" to be disabled.

Try downloading a newer version of Wine and selecting it for your starcraft2 virtual drive.  Newer versions of Wine no longer require "scope ptrace" to be disabled.

Let me know if you need help downloading a different version of Wine.

Thank you, I've tried that before and it brought me to a blank battle.net launcher(completely black)

I've tried a few things, it SEEMS to be working now.

I also tried $ optirun wine "path/to/Battle.net Launcher.exe/"

after trying that I had visuals on the launcher, but soon after it crashed and gave me an error from blizzard.

I just figured after trying again to switch wine version, that the command I was using must be using the default wine prefix, and not the new prefix that the file is inside of(is that a correct assumption?). So I made a shortcut with POL to Battle.net Launcher.exe, and on the desktop icon added optirun to the start of the command. So far it seems to be working, it's downloading and installing the game now. I'm at "playable" but I guess considering the environment I may want to wait until it's finished before I attempt to play..

I will update if anything fails, thanks for the help.

oh, the version I switched to is 1.7.22.. the POL script tried to use a 1.5.xx version.

Try the newest 1.7.30

You can also click on Configure, select your shortcut on the left, type in arguments:  -optirun

That might help, not sure if that is the exact command

The way PlayOnLinux works, is you can create wineprefixes (just like with Winetricks) but you can switch Wine versions on-the-fly.

So you can test you game with different Wine's to troubleshoot it.

Game seems to work well. I've played some campaign, and a few matchmaking vs AI.. No problems, minus the occasional stutter, which lasts just a second..

Marking solved.
