Yup. It looks as though I was right. You more than likely have a n Nvidia card in there. Check Additional Hardware in your application list (you can search for it right from the desktop) and see if it comes up with an Nvidia 4200M.

If you have one, then you need to install bumblebee so you can run optirun. We will check that in a bit.

I'm not finding Additional Hardware in my application list or the software center. However, I do find an Additional Drivers, and it doesn't come up with anything new. Any other ways I can check my hardware?

Yeah. I dont seen one listed, but all of the websites totally say that yours does.

Can you boot into the BIOS (Setup page when you FIRST turn the computer on) and see if there is any option to turn a card on or off?

I really cannot think of any other thing that would do this.

To enter BIOS setup, press the F1 key when the Lenovo / ThinkPad logo is displayed

when first powering on the system.

Select Config on the first screen.

Select Display on the second screen.

For the Graphics Device selection, change Make sure that its set to nvidia optimus.

Additionally, OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus can be enabled.

Press the F10 key to save the changed selections and exit BIOS setup.

Its probably turned off in the bios, which would make it not show up in Linux.

Absolutely, because if you chose the cheapest, it wouldnt come with a graphics card except for the built in one on your i5 CPU, but check the BIOS anyway, just to check.

Um, how are you starting this program? How did you install it? Did you do another manual install or something? It should have installed a wine version patched for that error.

See how there is no wine version? It seems like you arent installing this from the script, as required, and trying to do a manual install, which is not downloading the correct version of wine. This is an automatic thing if you run the script, so Im failing to see how its not running.

Explain how EXACTLY, step by step, you are installing this, because somehow you are trying to run the program with the system wine version, and if you installed from the script, there is no way it did that. .

I executed this command in terminal
sudo apt-get -y update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
Then I executed this command in terminal to find my graphics card
lspci -v
Then I deleted by old virtual console for Fallout 3. Then I went to the install programs section of PlayOnLinux, chose the Fallout 3 selection, and followed the instructions to the letter.

Yeah, for some reason the game decided to run with the system wine, instead of the wine that I was given (1.3.26xliveless2). However, when I run the game on that version of wine, I still get an error:

Instead of trying to run the game like that, just open up Steam in that virtual drive and run it from within steam.

If you dont see a steam icon:

playonlinux -> configure -> select fallout virtual drive -> create a new shortcut from this virtual drive -> select Steam

Then name it Fallout3-Steam or something like that.

Then, run that, and when it comes up, open your library, and run the game from within Steam (not from a POL icon or from the desktop), and lets see if that works.

I need to see the debug output from the INSTALL SCRIPT list, NOT the virtual drive list in Tools -> PlayOnLinux Debugger -> select Fallout 3 under the list named INSTALL SCRIPT, then click Locate this logfile.

When it opens in your file explorer, open it in gedit or any test editor, and copy the WHOLE thing, top to bottom, into another pastebin, please. I really need to see the whole thing from that exact spot.

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately, I have other commitments that I must leave for today. I will leave an update here tomorrow with what has happened and what you asked for. Also, my apologies for my misunderstanding what debugger info you've been asking for.

Did what you told me to. Was able to get steam running from the short cut, Fallout 3 was registered as installed. Ran game and got the launcher menu. When I clicked play from the launcher, the game didn't start. Install script log from text editor included in link below.

You did not report enough video memory for this game to work.
Either you did a mistake and adjust the value (Configure button > (select the virtualdrive) > Display tab > Amount of video memory), or this game cannot run on your hardware.
By the way this problem was not reported to you (just logged) because of a bug, now fixed in development version.

Executed following command in terminal to acquire video memory available:

My understanding is that the line "Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]" means that I have 256 MB of video memory available. Went to the amount of video memory area illustrated, changed memory to 256, and ran again. Same problem appeared. Here is the install script log:

Maybe you'll need a more recent Wine version with a liveless patch, though.

Tried running on the newest wine version (1.6-rc5). Got the error:
wine client error:0: version mismatch 425/440.
Your wineserver binary was not upgraded correctly,
or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH.
Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running?
