Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can assist me with getting MT4 to run on 10.9.2. I've had it running previously on 10.7.5 but now I'm having issues after the install on my newly formated mac.

Looking at the debug I'm assuming this is the error:


err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution. 


I've done many searches on google and people are saying the latest OSX is missing "winbind" and that I need to install "Samba" to fix it. I've tried but Samba is a file sharing application and not sure how this relates at all. I've tried multiple Wine versions. I've also tried other MT4 installs from multiple brokers.. all with the same error. Your assist is greatly appreciated.

Also looking at my installed Samba I can confirm "ntlm_auth" is selected in the config and the service is running. I've done multiple restarts and reinstalls for both POM and Samba.

Hello, I have also encountered a similar problem and would be grateful for any help from the Team, as I am not really that conversant with technical stuff. I tried to download Metatrader 4 using PlayonMac. Each time the same error message pops up.
'The program terminal.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.' This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine.'
The PlayonMac Wizard states: 'Error in main, MT4 crashed.'
For completeness:

- Name of the software and its version: PlayonMac, Wine 1.7.0
- Your desktop: IMac, OS X Mavericks 10.9.3
- Errors from the software. And if possible, tell when and/or where it happens: The error message happens at the end, when installing MT4.
- Your computer configuration: Not sure what I need to add.

The problem comes from the fact that samba dissapeared since Mac OS 10.7 (Or 10.8)

We are working on a workaround, but nothing sure yet

If I use Wine distrubuted with WIneBottler or CrossOver, metatrader4 runs fine. Though I want to use PlayOnMac because of the fonts smoothing support.

I've managed to fix it.

Try Install -> Other -> Metatrader 4 (Or 5)

For the moment, it uses XQuartz but I may make a more recent wine version that fixes that

Thanks for the work! It starts without errors, but unfortunately with Wine 1.2.3 version font smoothing is not supported. Fonts work only from 1.4 in PlayOnMac versions list but mt4 will fail. Is there any way to make same trick but with Wine 1.4? Thanks!

I haven't figured out where does the problem come from yet (That's really weird by the way because the builds are exactly the same), but I've made a new that could be useful in your case: Winebottler Wrapper import (You can find it from Other menu)

It will allow you to import a wine bottler dmg into PlayOnMac wine version manager, and use it with Metatrader 4 with of course font smoothing.

Great work! It works well =) I can use it for now, but I've noticed that visually Wine 1.4 provides better font smoothing than it's latest versions including one in WineBottler. It is shame that such small thing is so tricky.

Ok, I can survive with this fact. Thanks for much work already! Good news, I have made few tricks and found that error for 1.6.1 wine distribution caused by ntdll.dll.so

I have copied ntdll.dll.so from

1.6.1-winebottler/lib/wine/

to

1.6.1/lib/wine/

And Metatrader4 passed trough. I will try the same trick for 1.7.16

1.7.16 works well too with updated ntdll.dll.so !!!

That's interesting. I wonder what does cause this problem. Maybe does Winebottler patch their wine binaries. There are only few errors
