Counter Strike Source Not Launching

Hey, having some issues with getting counter strike to run, thought I would post here and see if I could get some help.

- Name of the Distribution (And it's version)
Ubuntu 8.10

- Name of the software and it's version (Ex: Wine 0.9.37)
Wine 1.0.1

- Your desktop (KDE,Gnome,Xfce,Fluxbox...)
Gnome, with Compiz turned off.

- Errors from the software. And if possible, tell when or/and when it happens.
Wish i had errors for you guys but it gives none. When I try to launch counter strike source, both from the Steam menu and from the icon that the script put on my desktop, it never launches. It draws the "LAunching Counter Strike Source..." windows to the screen, then that window closes, and the game never launches.

- Your computer configuration.
Dell laptop, 2 gigs of ram, duel core Pent. Core 2 Due, nvidia graphics card.

Let me know if anyone else is having this issue or knows how to solve it.

For some reason it was taking Steam a while to validate my account. When I waited a few and ran it, it would pop up the menu screen, but now it is crashing with the fallowing error.

"Engine Error"
"Platform Error: Module failed to initialize"

Hope that info is more helpful.
