To put things in perspective, I contributed a bit over 250 of those scripts (most of the "GOG.com" scripts), each one took me between one and two days of testing. So that's roughly about one year of most of my spare time.
PlayOnLinux used to keep around the logs of each and every installation around, until it was modified to only keep the last log for each install script while I was about half done. Just by curiosity I looked at the number of logs I had at the time, and it was a bit over 1200 installations if I remember correctly. So 2500 installation total tries, or around 10 tries on average for each script, is probably a good estimate.
I'm not complaining, nobody forced me to do this, and it was interesting. But still that's my answer to the "few" scripts.
