I've been unable to install Civilization IV using Wine, pretty much ever, because of the problem that occurs when the installer asks for the second installation CD. It cannot see /media/CIV4DISC2 for some reason, nor can it see folders I create on the hard drive to contain data3.cab (the one file on the second CD).
I was hoping the PlayOnLinux script would get around this problem, but no. The script window does give a message saying "When the installer asks for the second CD, click Forward". However, the installer permanently steals focus from all other windows. I cannot click on the script window at all, so I cannot click Forward. I cannot click on any other windows open on the screen. I can hit CTRL-ALT-T to open a terminal and work in the terminal, but if I click back on any installer windows I cannot get the terminal back again. Also, the installer makes some aspects of the window manager (Unity) hang, including switching workspaces, so cannot solve this by having the different windows open on different workspaces. Can tell it isn't crashing the computer completely, because I can still open terminals and shut down the computer using keyboard shortcuts.
