Hello good people of POL

I have installed Neverwinter Nights 2 the first disk, and I wanted to test it out to see if it works before I installed the other disks. Unfortunately, I have been greeted with several errors. Here is what I got: “Your Video card has less than 128 mb of video memory" “Unable to detect a video card with hardware 3D acceleration", "Hardware 3D acceleration appears to be disabled."

As far as technical details are concerned, I am running Linux Mint 15 32bit MATE, and I have an ATI Radeon HD 5450 running the latest driver with the catalyst. I am not sure whether the driver was installed right, but I can pull up the control center and change my resolution to what I like now. I am a novice when it comes to Linux; so, I apologize in advance.

I have visited the forums and have noted that my problem is common. I have attempted to remedy the situation as best as I understood from other peoples' posts. Here is a screen shot of what I got: http://i.imgur.com/qoBrFjX.png?1?5685 I may have made any number o0f mistakes in trying to get things working. I am pretty sure that I am running the latest version of POL. I am pretty stumped. Here is some debug jargon:

Can you run other games in Mint?
Try a native game with some 3D like Alien Arena. Its a pretty quick download.

From your debug output it looks like directx needs to be installed.

Are you installing Never Winter Nights 2 via script or a manual installation?

That devenum error can be fixed by installing the devenum package.

Thanks for the reply, booman. NWN2 was installed using the install function of POL as I do not know how to manually install a game as of yet properly with WINE. I thought POL downloaded DX for me. Maybe I need to do something more, eh? I'm going to be AFK for the weekend, but I will attempt to address everything you have mentioned when I get back.

If you watch the install closely the script will show you what libraries/packages its installing.  And the Wine version too.
I actually have Never Winter Nights 2 in Steam, so I could try it also and see what libraries are needed.
But I mostly use manual installations because it helps me understand what PlayOnLinux is doing to run games.

Wine HQs recommends these libraries/packages:
  • d3dx9
  • devenum
  • vcrun2005
  • dxdiag

I always use a virtual desktop in Wine because it fixes some screen problems games can have.

Here are some tips:

Wine Virtual Desktop:

  1. Launch playonlinux

  2. Click Configure

  3. Select "LoL" virtual drive

  4. Click Wine tab

  5. Click Wine Configure

  6. Click display tab

  7. Check "run Wine in a Virtual Desktop"

  8. Select a resolution (1024x768)

Now when you launch your game and it will open a generic Windows desktop

Display Options:

  1. Launch PlayOnLinux

  2. Click Configure

  3. Select nwn2 virtual drive

  4. Click on display tab

GLSL Support: default
Direct Draw Renderer: opengl
Video Memory size: check your video card specs
Off-screen rendering mode: fbo
render target mode lock: default
Multi-sampling: default
Strict Draw Ordering: default

I am trying out Neverwinter Nights 2 right now in Mint 14.
I am getting all of those same errors too. Including the ones about my video card.
But that was at first launch.
I installed devenum and dxdiag, launched again and now it runs fine.

Thankyou booman, you are a hero. This enabled me to atleast get the game to run. I am having other issues now, but if I cannot fix them alone, I shall open a new topic. This is now solved!
