This bug was fixed in Wine 1.7.13

http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.7.13

Get the latest Wine and try again :)

If you check the bug report, the bug is considered fixed because newer versions of Wine don't require d3dx9_36.dll anymore:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34052

So you not only have to upgrade Wine, but also set d3dx9_36 to builtin

By the way for me without d3dx9_36 I get a black screen display, Wine 1.7.13 or not.

What graphic drivers are you using? A bug being "fixed" doesn't necessarily mean it has been fixed across all possible driver/graphics card combinations.

For information only, on my test laptop,
NVIDIA Corporation C79 [GeForce G102M] (rev b1)  - 512MB
Proprietary nVidia driver 331.38 (Debian experimental packages, the distro is otherwise a Debian Sid)

This bug certainly seems to be affecting people differently. I could never consistently get this bug, but with my current setup for The Witcher I have not encountered it at all. I use wine version 1.7.9 and GLSL support disabled and offscreen rendering mode set to fbo.

As I said, I have no idea if this removes the bug, I have simply not yet encountered the bug with these settings yet so you may want to give it a try to see if it helps.

I kept experiencing this bug until I installed:  1.7.44-witcher1 version of wine in the configuration section in Playonlinux.  I hope this answer helps somebody.

I have wine 1.7.53, invidia GF 108F (GeForce GT 635M) and also have this bug in The Witcher (enchanced edition). Setting d3dx9_36 to builtin or even disabling it does nothing, bug persists. Tried many rendering options and also disabled GLSL and there was no effect either. The only way is to swich to intel gpu to avoid this bug :(.

This bug doesn't seem to be fixed.

Try using Wine 1.9.5 (IIRC - might as well use the latest version to be sure) or later & setting the registry key CheckFloatConstants to enabled (WineHQ Wiki: Useful Registry Keys)
