Hi fellows on POM! :)

Is it possible or impossible to make an environment so I can use the Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)?

(http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7887)

It would be so nice to be able to manage AD direclty from the Mac without to use this tool remotely from a windows machine or in a virtual windows.

Thanks!

Msu files are not supported yet, AFAIK.

Maybe we could try to extract them with the cabextract tool, but the result is not guaranteed. I'll have a look as soon as I can

Thanks for the fast answer Quentin! smiley

I also think the problem is that this tool needs Microsoft Management Console.

But if you can make an environment that will work with MMC and RSAT then you guys will be a heros for many mac (and perhaps linux) admin users! yes

..if you get this to work, be sure to spread the word out because this will be good commercial for playonmac (playonlinux)!

Thanks again

Hi again Quentin!

Did you have time to have a look on this?

I noticed that you can get these files if they are extracted:

adminpak.exe --> adminpak.msi --> A bunch of .exe, .msc and .dll files etc.

WindowsServer2003-KB340178-SP2-x86-ENU.msi --> A bunch of .exe, .msc and .dll files etc.

Windows6.1-KB958830-x86-RefreshPkg.msu --> rsatcustominstaller.exe & Windows6.1-KB958830-x86-RefreshPkg.cab

Windows8.1-KB2693643-x86.msu --> rsatcustominstaller.exe & Windows8.1-KB2693643-x86.cab

I'm not sure exactly which files is needed to get MMC started but mmc.exe and .dll files can be copied directly from System32 folder in a Windows installation.

Thanks!
